  The only time being shunned really bothered me was attending the funeral of my best friend, of 30 years. I had been df'd for about 2 years when my friend died. I drove over 600 miles to attend the funeral. I was greeted/offered sympathy by at least a dozen JWs, who knew of our long time friendship. However, one "brother" stood right beside me....looked right through me, without acknowledging my existence. The reason it bothered me, is I had allowed the "brother" to live in my house, rent free for almost two years, so that he could relocate to marry a local sister. When I was driving out of the parking lot of the funeral home, my friend's wife, blocked my car and made me get out so that she could hug me and thank me for coming.

  Trying to overcome my homophobia.

  i had a music album by a gay guy before i was a jw and had no problem listening to it.

  it's good music.

  some of the lyrics are what you might call 'gay', that is there's some talk about boyfriends, gay bars, and queens and the intolerance the artist encountered as a gay man.

  ...to my boyfriend, we're going to have one of those weddings ('gay' weddings to the straights).. although my jw family know i'm gay, and not going to meetings, only one of my sisters has sussed the situation.

  but i think after 3 years it's about time i told them.

  especially if sometime in the future i'll turn up with a (gay) wedding ring.

  LOU REED - r.i.p. (a special memory)

  i've always loved lou's music.... hearing about his death this am makes me remember when my little family was on the run.

  i was a 'visible' elder in my community, so when we got 'free' mentally, we took a choice available to us that, sadly, some don't have.

  we disappeared...just relocated to another town.. listening to 'a perfect day' by lou reed reminds me of those first few months...walking through one of the big city parks on cold sundays...both of us beaten and bruised and still in shock.

  The Velvet Underground was one of my favorite groups. Back in the late 90's I was shopping for Christmas presents. I came across a website for Mo Tucker (female drummer of VU). I ordered a few cds and tee shirts and she was unsure of how much the shipping would be....she told me to send $10 for shipping and if it was less than that, she would send a refund. A few weeks later, I received the merchandise and inside was a personal check from Mo Tucker for $4 for the excess shipping charge. Needless to say, I never cashed it. Also, she was a very heavy smoker.....the tee shirts smelled of cigarette smoke.

  Anyone Celebrating Halloween this Year???

  i started yesterday.

  took the kids (they were both princesses) and my nephew to 3 different events.

  got tons of candy and the kids had a blast.. .

  I live in Key West FL.....we started early with Fantasy Fest....a week of debauchery. Friday was a street fair and masquerade march and Saturday had a parade with about 50,000 people visiting this small island.
