what was the most outrageous comment you ever heard during a wt study?.
.
please share your experiences..
Said in the kingdom hall but not on the mic.
1. Two of the oldest and most mature elder sisters in my congregation told me once: "never go to the elders for anything.. they are like weak little boys"
2. Said by ministerial servant after platform demo at theocratic ministry school meeting involving exemplary long serving pioneer sister: "Dam that sister is a real bitch"
I quit meetings a month later.
please read this short article and then think for a minute on how this apply to those amongst the jehovah's witnessses who enforce organizational policies that harm people (such as shunning, for example, but there are others, such as blood, rejection of higher education etc), and those who blindly comply with such pratices - both of them otherwise "nice, good people" in every other regards, and who apparently don't see anything wrong in doing something harmful, even evil, to their brethren.. what is this?
the "banality of evil", or, instead, because there's such a strong identification with a cause, people just accept they are doing the right thing simply because the authority that is regarded as legitimatly representing such cause has instructed them to do so?.
interesting thought - and this question too: if one ceases to see such "authority" as the legitimate agent of the cause, will that simple change cause the blind to finally become aware of the evil they've been enforcing / complying to?.
Eye drops help...
an atheist airman is being denied the ability to re-enlist in the us air force because he refuses to use the word god in his oath of office, according to the american humanist association (aha).. the unnamed member of the air force refused to take the oath containing so help me god, wanting a secular affirmation instead.
so he crossed out the phrase on his contract.
the airman was told by his superiors that he must swear to god or leave the air force, the aha said in a press release.
It always seemed to me that believing in God and being in the military were completely contrary to each other. I don't understand how an oath like that can make any sense in the first place.
is there any way we can try to start a crowd-fund to help terry get some wheels quicker than he currently can?
with craigslist and a couple of bucks from a few members we can help terry get moving.
does anyone have any ideas how we can do a "theists for terry" bike fund raiser and challenge the atheists to a bucket-head challenge?
Terry... i'm just in the middle of setting up a new company so my hands and wallet are a little tied right now. But if you don't have a new bike in the next couple of months I'll buy you one myself.
Peace..

An atheist airman is being denied the ability to re-enlist in the US Air Force because he refuses to use the word “God” in his oath of office, according to the American Humanist Association (AHA).
The unnamed member of the Air Force refused to take the oath containing “so help me God,” wanting a secular affirmation instead. So he crossed out the phrase on his contract. The airman was told by his superiors that he must swear to God or leave the Air Force, the AHA said in a press release. The organization learned of the service member through the Military Association of Atheists & Freethinkers, a group that represents atheist and agnostic military members. The airman is a member of that group, along with over 3,500 other current and former military personnel worldwide, the AHA said in its letter.
The AHA’s Appignani Humanist Legal Center recently sent a letter to United States Air Force officials on behalf of the service member at Creech Air Force Base in Indian Springs, Nevada, demanding that the airman be permitted to re-enlist with a contract using secular language.
“The government cannot compel a nonbeliever to take an oath that affirms the existence of a supreme being,” Monica Miller, an attorney with the Appignani Humanist Legal Center, said in the AHA statement. “Numerous cases affirm that atheists have the right to omit theistic language from enlistment or reenlistment contracts.”
In October 2013, the Air Force quietly updated the rules regarding re-enlistments in Air Force Instruction (AFI) 36-2606, its rules governing reenlistments, which all airmen must take when they enlist or reenlist. The new AFI removed the exception: “Note: Airmen may omit the words ‘so help me God,’ if desired for personal reasons,” the Air Force Times reported.
“Reciting ‘So help me God’ in the reenlistment and commissioning oaths is a statutory requirement under Title 10 USC 502,” Air Force spokeswoman Rose Richeson told the AF Times Thursday. AFI 36-2606 “is consistent with the language mandated in 10 USC 502. Paragraph 5.6 [and] was changed in October 2013 to reflect the aforementioned statutory requirement and airmen are no longer authorized to omit the words ‘So help me God.’ ”
The Air Force said it cannot change its AFI to make “so help me God” optional unless Congress changes the statute mandating it.

Dismember: how do you know if some of those people you mentioned didnt get help privately? It is not bucket's fault if no one offered to help those people.
Who knows if Terry has not received help privately? Get of your high horses will ya!!
I never said helping Terry is not a good idea.. (although why a published author needs charity to buy him a bike beats me) So why not do it privately instead of making a big grand display about how good you are by announcung your public contributions and setting up this donation thread? Oh I get it.. people want it to be known they are contributing in persuit of that fictitious 'respect'.
99% of the posters here have more courage than you can poke a stick at.
Carry on believing that. Living s lie and a double life is not courageousness in the slightest. It's the opposite. Like it or not but Dishonesty and Cowardice go hand in hand.

There you go making up stuff and manipulating again. I said nothing about not contributing. I do try to contribute as and when I can. I said I don't care about chasing fictitious respect in a forum where very few of which have the courage even to say their real names or who they really are. Very little here is real. Ghosts in the night. A sea of Avatars..
I was not being negative either. Being open minded should never be classed as being negative. In fact I was being positive and drawing attention to those others who have lost a great deal that you seem comfortable to ignore.
Again I ask... where is your financial empathy for the other people I listed in this forum who lost far far more than a bike? Where was their fund?

Terry is one of my favourite posters. It's nothing to do with disrespecting Terry. I was the first to offer him sympathy. I just wondered why if this is such a loving community why are the other members I listed here who have lost a lost an awful lot more given absolutely nothing.
I have no desire to achieve anything in this virtual er.. community. You mean aspire to be an elder or ministerial poster? I'll leave that to you thanks.
Cheers but I try to limit my life goals to the real world.
Hey look he only has to sell 3 books and he can buy a new bike!

josh here, new to the board.
glad to know this site is here.. i would not be writing this if it were not 2014. i was a ministerial servant and regular pioneer who left the jehovahs witnesses back in 1995/96, around that time.
i left suddenly, didnt fade away, just left when something clicked one day in my head during the morning shower and made me realize this religion wasnt true.
Are you implying that it was once the truth? Nothing happened. It's was false then and it's false now.
