Have you ever had a hallucination? What was it like?
by Nathan Natas ini have almost never had a visual hallucination and i was wondering what they're like.
how "real" do they seem?
is there any kind of a hint you get that tells you they are not real?

Oh, and I've taken drugs and have mental problems... Neither ever afforded me the hallucinations that my brain naturally creates, as does everyones, daily.

I spent a few years trying to lucid dream on an almost daily basis - dealing with hypnagogia is a blast, in its own way it's as fun as actually having a lucid dream... Since you never know what your mind will throw at you to distract you from remaining "aware" or "mentally awake" or whatever you call it (it's actually difficult to explain without sounding like I'm spouting mumbojumbo new age meditation blab).
Anyway, I've been dragged from my bed by one foot, had my face forced into my pillow, heard my name called and screamed out (usually my mum's voice), seen spooky creatures and shadows looming over me and I've "rolled out" of my body a few times... None of it real of course. (Oh, and I nearly saw heaven, or god, or whatever shining down on my bed... But I woke up, typical.)
We all have it. At least once or twice nightly. We just usually don't remember, dream memory is funny stuff.
If I hadn't spent hours reading about it and wanting it before I experienced it, I think I would have handled it badly... After all, seems as real as this does now when it's happening.
(Who was that prophet who heard god call him a few times as he was falling asleep? Hypnagogic voices calling you are almost as common for me as feelling the sensation of falling or vibrating... a dream forming around that "voice of god" would naturally be one where god tells you something... Perhaps more impressive than my "voice of mum" but no less a fabrication of the subconscious)

Blood sausage
by stillin inwhile visiting our neighbors across the pond, i visited a butcher store to rustle up something for supper.
that was the first time i had ever seen blood sausage.
we just never see it over here in the states.. when a witness leaves the organization over there, do they all eat blood sausage once again?

by KateWild inscience imo does not have all the answers.
when i discover gaps in science, it's easy for me, as a temporary measure to fill in the gaps with god.
i do this until i have learnt something new.. what about you?

The most Disturbing Story in the Bible

but in browsing his site i was reminded of an early biblical story in genesis that essentially throws so much jewish and subsequent christian thinking out of the window.. .
can your mind handle the concept of yahweh standing in front of you, with a human body like yours, eating, drinking.

by Comatose ina newly minted atheist, she uses her youversion bible app to try to persuade people away from the christianity she grew up in.. .
i know of a lot of atheists who have come to their nonbelief by actually reading the bible rather than just the fluffy stories they choose to tell you about in church, she said.
reading the full story with all its contradictions and violence and sexism, it should make you think, is this really what i believe in?

Growing up dubbish I found it hilarious that any christians I bumped into never seemed to know their bibles.
As an atheist I find it frightening that most believers don't know their holy books.
