FYI: The only person I 'represent' is myself. I run the forum, everyone's opinions are there own. This is not a cult where everyone needs to agree. Sharing different opinions is what makes the forum what it is. The day we need spokespeople and agreement over everything is the day to turn it off IMO. If I wanted that world I could go back to a Kingdom Hall.

What about the opinion that the Watchtower bloodban has caused the wrongful death of 250,000 people from 1961-2013? You don't seem to allow that one.

The issue is that the Watchtower is able to cloak their actions from the public eye. The problem is that there is no transparency (same with government and all religion). The inevitable result from this lack of transparency will be misinformation. Julia's figure is an inevitable result which means it's not any big deal. The BIG deal is the cause of that result which is

It's shameful that our population seems to need pictures of piles of corpses to call something mass murder. When the Watchtower can just "hide in statistics." You are wrongfully focusing on poor Julia and totally removing your focus from the underlying cause. This is unscientific and just plain nasty.

The thrust of the argument should focus on how the Watchtower causes their own misinformation by cloaking themselves from the public eye. Because of this we all have to become Sherlock Holmes to get to the truth of the matter. It's an extremely difficult process that invovles a great deal of human error.

The reason why this figure is so hard to pin down is because of the extreme rate of membership turnover in the Watchtower which effectively hides their true membership count between 1961 and today. If someone decides to "go JW" for the duration of their "visit" they are endangering their lives and any dependents they may have. How many people go into the Watchtower and never come out? The math on this is complex, a lot more than anyone is leading on.

From 1961-2013 how many people were, at any time, adhering to the Watchtower anti-blood edict?The number is impossible to determine, but we can safely say that it's a lot more than the official numbers that the Watchtower publishes. How many Watchtower Bible-study students deaths have occurred as a result of the blood doctrine? There are many factors to consider when adding up a total death count. I see 250,000 as a bit high, but the backlash in this thread is totally overkill. We should be gently correcting AAWA and groups like them, not throwing stones.

I think the 250,000 number would best fit a total wrongful death count when factoring in all the destructive Watchtower doctrines. When you add up the blood doctrine, suicide due to DF'ings, vaccine and organ transplant bans etc the number would be staggering.

i was thinking that to put oneself into the mind-set of someone else without the background and upbringing that we had is very hard to do.

if i could live several lives without knowing i was doing so, to then compare all of them at the end of those separately lived lives would pose an interesting set of questions.

one of these would be regarding what i would believe after the comparison of numerously lived dispositions and cultural upbringings.

The circumference of the earth is approximately 40 000km. If we eradicated all scientific knowledge and started again using the scientific method we would eventually discover that the earth had a circumference of 40 000km.

If we did that, which I highly recommend against doing, what would result is unknown. WhatI think is safe to say, however, is that kilometers wouldn't exist. Some other metric would and conversion into kilometers would be impossible since that metric was destroyed along with all other ancient knowledge. Fact is, we have no idea what would happen if we wiped all scientific knowledge from the planet. We can theorize, which is just for fun.

I personally think octopus people would evolve and take over.

Not so. Once the power of the scientific method was discovered we would inevitably discover the same facts.

When you plug your claim into the scientific method it stalls because it cannot be tested. Just like you can't go back in time and make the universe be something different. You can theorize it, but that's basically mental masturbation because it's unfalsifiable. You can't go back and time and show a different scenario, we have what we have because we have it. An impossible scenario cannot be used for evidence of anything.

i thought i was back on the jw radar after my jw daughter had a local elder call on me back in 2011 - but apparently not.

he obviously didn't let his elders know i lived here, no record was kept for posterity and just called my daughter telling her that her " dad has differences with the organization " because he never called back on me as he promised to talk again.

as i'm just inactive for 10 years.. so these two older jw ladys come knocking yesterday - one lady about 57 and the other lady older about 71 yrs.old ( i asked how long they had been jw's and told me they both have been in 30 years.

It's the presses job to shine light on any criminal activities going on in establishments who claim sanctuary status in the community. They act as one of the few checks and balances in that respect. The burden of proof is on the Witness who makes the extrordinary claim. If the media really was lying about the Witnesses, couldn't the Watchtower sue for libel? It just takes a small amount of critical thinking to determine whether or not what the media says about certain religions is valid.

Think about it, the media wants to make money right? Well, there is more than enough scandals going on in ALL religions to line their pockets with gold and silver. They don't need to make anything up. If the media is reporting on Jehovah's Witnesses more than other religions that would mean that the Watchtower has a problem they need to fix. Yet, instead of owning up they merely dismiss it as "lies from Satan's media." It's a joke.

Governing Body Hollywood JACKASSERY

hollywood likes to make movies "inspired by" actual persons and events.. when they do, many critics point to the various facts which have been changed in the creation of the film.

a male character may be transformed by screenwriters into a female.. the actual location of the true incident becomes a different country altogether.. a tall person may be portrayed by a short actor.. the decade of the true incident may be switched to a totally different time period.. names are changed and characters may be added or removed.. things never spoken are quoted as though actual.

motives are suddenly attributed to people opposite to reality.

Good post Terry. The Governing Body act like they own the rights to to the Bible itself. If you notice on JW.org you have to navigate to the "publications" secion to get to their Bible. Like a conquering nation they claim the Bible itself as "their publication." They don't see it as the ancient artifact that it is for all to enjoy. They only want it for themselves and say that no one else has the qualifications to translate and interpret.

He says the New World Translation Bible Committee needed to recompose the Bible. The word "compose" means to " write or create (a work of art, esp. music or poetry). " The Watchtower takes full artistic licence when translating the Bible. They believe they own it which shows their utter arrogance and perceived superiority over all other Christian religions. They are the thieves the Gospel of John speaks about:
