Well I return to put in my 2 cents. I have heard over 40 years of such speaches. The problems still exist. SO blah blah blah- kinda reminds me of the jw thought of floating dates and timetables-
Sadam is evil. Yes we have heard that every day for some time now. The un found what 16 empty containers and we have the word of intellegence sources and guys in prison that thus and so is going on. And now, just now we all of a sudden are concerned over the welfare of these poor people in Iraq. Of course there was no discourse about the plight of millions of others around the globe. SO yes sadam is not a good man. He has the potential of even worse things. To date he has been the most damaging to his own- according to the politics of the day. Nothing, I repeat nothing Bush provided in his speach was new. Each and every charge that he levied against this evil man has already been made public. My question remains the same: If the iraq situation is so bad to the point of requiring the US to launch an attack- why - please tell me why- those in sadams part of the world have to be convinced by us of this need? Would not those that live closest to his nation be begging our action instead of shying away from the war? This is the part that I find most bewildering.
Let us see what "new" info Powell provides on the 5th of Feb. My gut feel, especially after Bushes speach tonight, is there is nothing new. It all falls on the concept of "evil" and that the US has a moral obligation. Though I do not agree that we have a moral obligation I do agree that sadam is evil. However, I do not see that either of these puts the US in a postition to justify war. As ex-jws we should be experts at identifying a brainwash job. For months on end the brainwash has been put out- if we say that sadam is evil enough times people will buy the war. If we say that the last days began in 1914 over and over again- hey they will buy it- and for a long time a lot of us here did and tried to sell it to others.

i have.. i hadn't even realised it until i had a conversation with my brother last summer.
our dad was a proffesional man who could command a good income whilst he worked.
trouble is, that he would listen to all the 1975 "end of the system" nonesense and then become motivated to serve where the need was great.
My great aunt owned prime property where we lived in the 70's. When she became ill I was the caretaker of her house and animals. Right in the middle of that she deeded over the main part of her propety to the local KH who within a few short years after her death in 1975 made a killing on the land by selling it to wal-mart. So of course when she passed I received nadda and the congregation raked it in! They probably donated lots of money to the world-wide work after that one!

Thank you so much! It has been a rough couple of year. I try to laugh it all away but it dont quite work all that well- But we are on to a new day and have life. There are so many more that are enduring much worse than I. That is hard to see sometimes but it is true. I watched Chris Reaves on a TV interview the other day and felt small. He is inspiring in his endurance. And his family provides such a great support system for him. And there are many more like him to feed off of.
I guess that some times the boards here can be a bit to negative for ones enduring much trauma. But sometimes the experiences I read of others take my mind off of my own situation. Thank you again.

THanks JC. My infection has lasted since a year ago last October. I thought I was dying. But with all the other trauma and day to day stuff I neglected myself a bit. Did make a couple of runs to the emergency room and a couple of clinics. Vanderbilt finally came through for me.
Your efforts are much appreciated by the survivors I am sure hawk. You seem to be a very balanced person. Best wishes to you and yours in this new year!

Hawk my son, though he lost both feet has recovered well. Just glad to be alive. One leg is shorter than the other and learning to walk again with his new feet is a real challange for him. He is having some emotional problems over it all and I think that his mom is dragging him to the KH. He has started shunning me.
I have a reall serious sinus infection- on steroids and antobiotics. Other than that life goes on.
Thanks so much for asking. I truly am glad that the direction of SL is headed in seemingly a more focused way. I was very concerned that so many things that were being said- but that seems to be old history now.

all religion, no matter which one, was going to banned, and then the end would come.. what about a country like the us where it was founded on religious freedom?
where you have many political leaders here and elsewhere for that matter claiming that they are christians.
Just watch Bush closely. He has a method to his madness. He is cozying up to some religions that will play with him. Remember he wants to fund the churches for social services. And once funded they will be controlled in escence by the ones they are funded by thus diminishing their independant status in this nation.

I clearly have heard of the names you have mentioned. I assume that court cases are in motion on these cases. Though court papers may have been filed and maybe even court hearings- have any of these cases been decided. I am not speaking about convictions of pediphiles. I certainly believe that all pediphiles should be brought to court and punished to the fullest extent possible. I am speaking of any cases- lawsuits- against the WT - have any been decided? Has any court yet held the WT liable for these action? That is what I would like to see, but as yet I know of no such ruling.
