There's just something about theists that say they were once atheists....
by logansrun inyou know the type, the ones that say, "oh yes.
i tried to not believe in god..." or "when i left the jws i became an atheist, but since i found jesus..." simply put, i don't believe them.
i don't think they ever really stopped believing in god.

Good comments... both of you.
Another thing that bugs the heck out of me is when people view atheists as simply those who do not want to believe in god. "Atheists are people who simply do not want to be accountable to anyone!"
Argh.

impossible for god to lie?
by SpiceItUp inif god is omnipotent (meaning having virtually unlimited authority or influence) how is it impossible for him to do anything much less lie?
also how could he give the lowly humans an aspect of personality that he himself did not have?.
if he didnt have it then wouldn't it not exist?.

If god exists, of course he could lie.
If god inspired the bible, he probably had the idea of "impossible for god to lie" written just to emphasize that he is completely trustworthy.
But would god need to lie? Probably not. He would have nothing to hide, right?

interesting how the theorists of evolution still try to fight the laws of reason while trying to keep alive this dying ideology.

Glory of Love by Peter Cetera
That was the first song my wife and I danced to at our wedding.
I like Chicago a lot and have a couple of Peter Cetera albums as well.

If Time were running in reverse would we know it?
by D wiltshire inif "time" is running backwards i dont see how that we would ever know, perhaps some clever physicist could devise an experiment to find out for sure.. some theoreticians have suggested the reason the arrow of time runs from past to future is tied intimately to the expansion of space.
since einstein special theory of relativity we have come to see that "time", space and speed are all relative.
we now more correctly speak of "space-time" instead of just space.

Elsewhere has no idea what time is. His dogmatic comment should tell you that.
You're right... I don't know what I was thinking. Like you said earlier in this thread, Einstein's SR theory shows without a doubt that time is not completely abstract. How did I forget that?
Doh!

Ok, well, if time were running in reverse would we not see effect before cause? Obviously we do not see cause and effect in that order so time must be flowing "forward."

By the way, the cesium-gas-faster-than-light-speed thing is an illusion. Check out this site:

... time is just an abstract idea assigned to the passage of events, nothing more.
I have never seen this thread before it was resurrected, but I agree with Elsewhere's comment above.

Another New Rule-----You Can't Record Prayers at the District Convention
by minimus inmy mother told me that she got a video from a sister that already went to the convention.
the entire program was recorded except for the prayers.
the sister said the society says we have to shut off the recording if the prayer is being given.

I've never heard of that one. When we toured all of the Bethel facilities, camcorders runnin', no one from Bethel ever said we had to mute the audio.
It was a big deal when we were there in 1995. I don't know, maybe they've changed their viewpoint. It seemed stupid that you could record video but not audio.
