i'm off to new york this morning.
i'm fortunate that my oldest daughter will drive with me, missing class to support her mom and possibly to say a final farewell to her grandma.. my mother has has two strokes this year, and, after the first one in may, told me that she felt like she was dying from the inside out.
she had another stroke at the end of august, and was eventually put in a nursing home.
((((((Brenda)))))) I am really sorry to hear about your mother. It is never easy to loose a loved one, no matter how old they are.
I lost my mother at the age of 68 and the worst part was her passing away while on an extended trip to Europe. Even though, it gets better with time, I still have a problem not having the opportunity to say my last goodbyes. At least you will be able to with your mother.

we just returned from visiting mouthy- she is not feeling well -her back is "out "since friday, and she is in so much pain she can hardly walk.

It was great finally meeting you. Your situation sparked up some very disturbing thoughts for me. (Must be the southern Italian blood) I tend to cast aside the "Political Correctness" when the latin adrenalin starts flowing. It has been truly a blessing that I did not run into someone while driving through Shelburne every weekend this past summer.
I would have enjoyed meeting Scott when you were here, but it was nice meeting your brother.
I am certain that the letter writing campaign, had an effect on their decission to drop the costs issue. I also wrote to all that were on the list, plus some others. I only had one response (from the Solicitor General I think?) and it was a one liner similar to what you get from the wts. It simply stated that they could not comment on a private legal matter.
You are truly brave and an inspiration for others to follow in your footsteps. I am a very nominal Catholic and applaud the people that had the courage to stand up to the church. I am certain that in the future, the church will be more aware of the potential risk and act accordingly.
I hope that I have the pleasure of seeing you and Scott in the near future.

I also have to agree that Scientology is somewhat less dangerous than the wts.
If you have read any books by Steve Hassen and others, regarding mind control, you will realize that it is much more difficult in deprogramming jws. Their mind control techniques are more subtle and over a longer period of time. All you have to do is observe (like I have been doing) various people on boards like this one, being out for quite some time and still defending the wts in some way.
It has been clearly shown thet the faster and more grueling the techniques are, the quicker the recovery. Steven states that people in communes are often helped by being taken away from the cult for a few days. His own situation was exactly that. He broke his leg and had to be hospitalized.
The wts is very clever making all their adherents believe that they are totally different because they live in their own homes and do what they do only because of their love for Jehovah and their true heart condition.

I still shake my head whenever someone on this board posts rules and regulations from the society's writings. The rules are made up as they go along. There are no set rules. Each congregation seems to look at it differently. In my humble opinion, Osama could learn a thing or two from this group.
My ex was allowed to leave and I have never been able to find out the reason. I wrote to the boys at Bethel and received a one-liner stating that they do not get involved in personal matters. If anybody believes that, I have some nice swamp land in Florida for sale.

a friend of mine is getting a divorce because her husband is questioning the wts...he's sick of the cover-ups...in light of a new elder abuse case here.
she says she can't lie with someone who is going to talk against the wts..so i asked her how she could get a divorce for those reasons.
evidentally, the co came to talk to her and because she can't get govt.
I think that my ex must have used the spiritual endangerment garbage also. I will never know for sure. This does not surprise me. Did anybody get a straight answer from the Gestapo, Stalin, Mussolini, etc?
Even though I was never a Jayho, never once stopped her from going to meetings, she had no problem getting a divorce. She has since married a Jayho with what appears to be heresay fornication. I tried to get some answers from her elders but they always claimed that they were in the dark about the details. (this is a simple feat for them. All they have to do is act naturely.)

i would appreciate some input from the board that is weighing quite heavy on mind.. as some of you may know, my ex divorced me six years ago, strictly for religious reasons.
after an enormous amount of legal funds, i succeeded in getting an agreement signed that states that when the child reaches an age that the courts consider mature enough, we would both allow him to make his choice of religions.
even if he wanted nothing to do with religion.. it would seem that the time has finally arrived.

I think you are right about them doing it now that he is 12. That was an emotional, shoot from the hip, reaction on my part. I guess it was the trauma of being suddenly served. I did not expect that.
Thankfully, my son was never certain about THE TRUTH, from a young age. I, very lovingly allowed him some space. He was afforded the opportunity to ask any questions about my faith (RC). This was in complete contrast to the witlesses. The witchpower loves to hate the Catholics but there is one large difference. We can approach our priest and freely say anything without penalties. I went to my parish priest when she first left. Being away from the Church for 25 years had absolutely no affect on him. He was very saddened by the separation and offered his help in reuniting us. Imagine that! He was told that my wife was a witness and he had no problem with helping. If in fact there exists a higher power, which scenario do you think would have his approval?
LB: I have tried to speak well of her. It is almost impossible sometimes, however, when it came to the CULT (sorry, but I refuse to call it a religion, it is an insult even to small sects like the Hari Keshnas.

Iwasyoungonce: I had originally stated to my ex that if she wanted my son to be a robot, she would have to have me killed! I dont think that she took me seriously. HER MISTAKE! I can be very focused when fighting for a just cause. The only thing that goes against me is my Latin blood. Very difficult at times keeping cool. I am constantly working on it without much success. Mary: We have joint custody. We both spent wads of money needlessly. She was determined to get sole custody. It was not going to happen! As far as the support payments the court may find me in default since I did not get a variance. I am meeting with a lawyer this afternoon. I will have a better idea then. She has been earning more than me for several years now but you know how the courts always view it. MAN BAD, WOMAN GOOD.(Very basic but most of the time true)
DazedAndConfused: I think that it is also detrimental to the child to have anything to do with the witnesses. No matter how you cut it! They leave having been damaged. They need years of therapy and still most do not fully recover. I have met so many ex witnesses and being on the outside you can easily see this damage. Some that I know have been out for years, were totally abused in the CULT and yet they are basically still witnesses with a bit of a twist. I am sick and tired of still arguing points such as: Trinity, Hellfire, Jehovahs name, putting him above your children, Halloween, Christmas (because of a wrong date) etc., etc.
A Paduan: I think that I addressed my feelings about making the choice at this age. He was almost vomiting everytime he went to a meeting. It is not a pleasant experience for normal people.
The PO told him that I do not know my Bible like they do since my son was showing him that scripture tells us all to take the bread. I have written to this asshole twice challenging him to a bible dual but so far he has refused. (piece of dogshit)
