  Our Mouthy/Granny needs us.........

  i just got a pm from mouthy/grace/granny and she is not feeling up to par these days..... her arthritis and diabetes is acting up..... can you please send her a special prayer or thought her way..... we all know she well worth it..... .

  The hypocrisy of the DF policy

  i posted recently about a jw friend on mine getting df'd.

  (she was the only jw who kept in touch with me when i left 5 years ago).. now i'm just so angry about some things that have been said by my jw family.

  just this last weekend my friend hit rock bottom.

  Please pass on my regards to your friend. On a more practical basis, is there anything we can do to help her? You said she's living in an unfurnished rented house, is there anything she needs? I recently moved in with my girlfriend who also owns her own home and so we had two sets of everything, a lot of which is in storage waiting for a car bootsale. If she can use any of it she's welcome to it. Do you still have my phone number? And I'm in Manchester this weekend for a conference so arranging to meet and drop it off wouldn't be a problem either.

  Reading CoC did not have to much effect on me, the books that really made me think were George Orwells '1984' and 'Animal Farm'.

  But we must remember that if the case had been handled by human judges, the parents as well as the unborn child in the womb would have lost their lives.

  Are they saying that it doesn't matter about the life of the baby because it was going to die anyway? What sort of spin would that put on the way they treat others considering most of the earths populaton is going to die any day now at armeggedon?

  Just had my first ever study with a JW

  i wanted to ask questions about the organisation, but he looked me in the eye & ignored my questions to pursue his agenda.. he listed about 15 topics for us to study, to prove only jws are based on 1st century christianity.

  i got him to agree not to attack other religions, (proving them false does not prove jws true) he agreed with this but then went on to criticise other religions!

  next week i'll be firmer on this point!.

  I've been thinking about this a bit.

  Your objective is to get your friend out, and as he won't have anything to do with you if your not studying then I think you need to make sure you don't rock the boat. If you go along with the bloke conducting the study and ask questions to show your thinking about it but don't rile him too much so that he thinks your making progress and its worthwhile continuing your study. Why not just use your study as a means to an end to be able to keep contact with your friend so that you can concentrate on your primary objective, if the study is cancelled you may lose everything. Just a thought.

  If he's just been baptised the other week he may need your help now more than ever. Lots of jws stop having so much to do with a new one once they're baptised and can't count their time, so this might give you an opening as he sees the 'real love'.

  he now graces my right arm and has been adopted into my family of frog tattoos.

  (gizmo, on my left front leg above my ankle and flipper, another little frog above my right ankle, but to the side).

  Wen I was disfellowshipped it hurt so much, but looking back now it was the catalyst that made things work out so much better for me. I hope it doesn't cause too many problems for you, welcome to the board.

  What points was he using to attack other religions? I remember the ones that were being used as I was growing up, slagging them off because of how many people were leaving, getting involved with politics/un, scandals involving the church/catholic child abuse scandal, believes not standing up to scrutiny, etc. All of these can be turned around to show exactly the same applies to the jw's.

  if he's the typical jw then he'll give you the whole "you must first take milk before solid food" spiel. he will want to cover all the basics with you in order right in the book

  If you push him too hard he'll class you as apostate and stop the study with you, giving you even less of a chance with your friend. I would let him follow the subject he wants to follow each week, but research each subject so that you have all the right answers ready. What book are you studying and where abouts are you up to in it? Perhaps we can give you a few ideas.

  Expect your study conductor to bring an elder with him next time to help him with your difficult questions, so there'll be at least two people facing you next time. Don't forget I live close by if you need any help.
