as the title of the thread says, i woke up this morning realizing more than ever that we should, each and every one of us, live for today and what we can accomplish today, rather than constantly looking toward the future.. i'm not implying we shouldn't make plans, plans are healthy and advisable, especially if you have healthy commitments.. but i realized the reason why nothing in my life ever seems to get done, is because i put things off, and look ahead 10 years down the line, then a few days later realize how much work needs to be put into that said task, then i don't do anything.
and so the cycle seems to repeat itself.. what i think i'm trying to say is that worthwhile endeavors that have a reward at the end, but take many years to get there, need to be challenged one day at a time.
i now understand that to get to where we want to be 10 years down the line, we need to focus on today and the hard work that needs to be out into a task one day at a time.
Interesting thread. I woke up the other morning and thought "Life is about maintenance and preparation" - this is something we weren't taught as JW's. The end was coming, so long-term maintenance (relationships, property, skills, knowledge) wasn't necessary nor was any long term preparation (education, planning, etc).
Basically if you want your life to make any real progress, you better be giving serious thought to both areas. Sad that that is some sort of a revelation as a middle aged man.

in the current arrangement, in most cases, a local trust is set up to hold ownership.
of course, the most likely answer is "the watchtower (or whatever shell corporations they set up) will own the land & building".
Yeah, the higher ups went in ready to convince the other members of the committee to "vote" commercial. It was made plain what was expected and then a prayer was made for show (assuming the story isn't completely fabricated.)
The chairman would have continued the debate until the others conceded regardless. It's always "look at what Jehovah did" after the fact.

1. the meeting notes (which seem to be genuine, several sources now) for the ldc roll out talk about the need for 500, yes, 500 new halls.. 2. they are not interested in what property is available, but instead what is 'optimal', and are training couples to search for 'optimal' property.. 3. if the buildings did not have a sign that said jw .org (i refuse to give them a free link) and kingdom hall of jehovah's witnesses, you could not tell it from a small bank or office building, just check the pictures.. .
this makes me think that a) they either need to build and sell commercial property very quickly, or they just want to build and sell commercial property very quickly.. .
think about this: to build a kingdom hall (church), you need a variance, whether commercial or residential.. i predict they will put these in primarily commercial locations, ie, 'optimal' locations.. .
Yeah they will misquote enough old testament scriptures to convince the volunteers to build like God told them to. They will make a bundle selling off the old halls and start selling a few of the new ones in a few years. They can do this for decades.

today's wt study (nov 15, 2014 page 4, par 4.. the governing body in jerusalem sent the apostles peter and john to these samaritan converts, and they laid their hands on them, and they began to receive holy spirit.
(acts 8:5, 6, 14-17) .
there are multiple references to acts 15 whereby "the apostles and older men" were the governing body.. i have never noticed this applied to "the apostles" only in acts 8:14 before.. is this another new item to reinforce the concept of the governing body?.
I think they pushed the notion of a 1st century GB more this wt study than ever before. It's bold and telling of who they are and what their agenda is. Fear mongering, insisting on God-given authority, all the while planning very ungodly business maneuverings aka real estate empire building.

back in the day, if someone was put on probation for an offence, rather than being disfellowshipped, if he re-offended whilst that probation was in force, disfellowshipping was automatic.
normally a probation lasted 12 months.
after the probation was finished that was it.
It depends on what the "sin" is. Where I am, if you get in trouble for fornication and then commit fornication again 6 months later, then you would be found "unrepentant" and DF'd.
