It's a "nice" idea, but how many elders have the time or the will to follow these instructions? Even for those who are sincere, I can't imagine it won't wear off after a few weeks. They're already too busy.

Purged songs of the Watchtower
by LogCon inmy memory of singing the kingdom songs go back to when i was a child in the 1950's.
they still hold a place in my memory and my heart.
how can something that is so much a part of your childhood not stay embedded in your heart.?.

DNC, that's interesting. I loved the harmonies of those hymns, even as children my sisters and I sang with my mom (just something we did, in the car, of an evening) singing the harmonies by ear. I still love to sing and currently sing in a couple of choirs.
Thanks for the info!

Shirley, I remember them. I'd like to see a copy of that old green songbook.

I think if a writer or composer of a song left the borg their song would be expunged in the next edition. We have at least one former composer and contributer here on the board if I'm not mistaken.

2014 DC in DETROIT? anymore info ? scan of the "letter"
by ?me? inso in our area, we have the circuit assemblies going on, so the "letter" about when and where our dc was delayed.
but a local elder let everyone know in their service group, and they let it out of the bag( only to have 30 comments on socal media, and only to be deleted a day later).
not a big deal, right?

I wondered if they'd bring assemblies back to Detroit. Lots of great restaurants in the area. I never liked the Silverdome because I always had small kids and it just seemed so unhealthy. Of course, no venue would be good for families.
I went to the annual conference for UUs this summer; what a difference! I'd go again. No kids at the regular sessions, but fun camp is provided for kids. And adults picked from dozens of different sessions. We were encouraged to skip sessions so we didn't get too tired! Also encouraged to dress comfortably.

Yes! Once when we did a roll call of congregations we'd been in someone contacted me to see if I knew him. Of course I did! He lived around the corner from me. It was terrific to talk out our shared experiences.

Do You Often See JWs Out In The Ministry?
by minimus ini used to always see them preaching.
now, it seems as though they rarely are around.
the only witnesses i see, every once in a while, are the hispanic ones..

They come around my neighborhood every couple of years. Last week two young "sisters" knocked (didn't ring the bell?) and I answered. I just smiled and said "no." They said OK and just turned around to leave, didn't even try to engage me at all. They had what looked like a small, pale-pink brochure. I have no idea what they were pushing. I just don't care to get into any discussion with them.

What's the weirdest health advice given by a JW?
by Julia Orwell infrom radio biola to a sister who said you can treat autism and ptsd with scented oils, jws have had some weird some weird ideas about medicine.

Cancer is caused by parasites in your body. Drink a special tea and give yourself enemas and the parasites and cancer would come out. Really! If you looked in the toilet you'd be able to see them. (and this may not even be the wierdest.)
One sister believed that radiation hit your roof, from the sun i guess, and to be healthy you had to climb up on your roof and wipe a plastic bag full of salt across it. That would take care of the radiation once and for all. This particular sister sadly died of untreated breast cancer because she believed she could pull the tumor out with hot, herbal compresses. Left three kids.
There was an "herbalist" in our circuit who could tell what was wrong with you by looking and listening to your symptoms. You could be cured by drinking quarts of nasty tea and giving yourself enemas with the same tea. Our congregation also believed in a grape diet that included, you guessed it, multiple enemas a day!

How difficult; you are a good person, hope the family sees that on some level. Emma
