I say one polite word, No, and close the door. No slamming, no ammunition to them, just a polite no. They really don't know what to do with it!

If a JW Came To Your Door How Would You Handle It?
by minimus injehovah's witnesses have never come to my door but they have come to my girlfriends door.
i have coached her as to what to say or ask but it appears that they always seem to come when she's not there.
.....just curious would you get into it with a jehovah's witness at your door especially if it was someone you did not know?.

Does anyone know what this is?
by Tameria2001 inyesterday my sister cut her foot on a piece of metal that was sticking out of my yard.
i've lived in my home for almost 8 years now, and well i'm guessing this thing must have worked it's way up to the surface or something, never seen this thing before.
i started to dig it up, and the thing just kept getting bigger and bigger.

I'm with stuckinarut2. It helps that I'm currently watching Timeless. I'll withhold judgement on the show.

I've been out of the org for decades and once in a great, great while it happens to me. I just immediately replace it with something else.

I had the same feeling when I watched my eldest get baptized at about 15. My heart just sank and I was awakened to how many doubts I had. Just when he was entering a time when normal teens question, act out, and seek their independence, he would be disfellowshiped for those normal actions and I would have to shun him! That was never going to happen, I knew it in my very being. Fortunately, we all got out, not without initial guilt and loss.
And I have to make a comment about the term "wifey." I happen to personally find it demeaning and condescending and hope something more dignified can be found so describe wives!

Counting time
by Emma ini may not have put this in the correct spot, but i do think it's scandalous the way time gets counted now.
i've seen a cart at the edge of our farmer's market, never anyone close enough to talk.
yesterday was a drizzly day and there were two carts set up, covered in plastic, "witnessing" on their own.

NewYork 44M, "I, on the other hand, am jealous. Why did I not think of that trick when I was trying to "get my time in."
I know, I was such a diligent pioneer. It was impossible for me to keep it up. How about just taping mags in the window and count time endlessly.

I almost knocked on the window to ask if they were "counting time or making time count." I am disgusted that anyone thinks this really is witnessing.

The 1975 Generation---are they still around?
by minimus ini was raised as a jw and 1975 expectations were pretty intense.
as i recall, most people did not leave after the failed expectations but many s l o w e d down.
now, i think most of the 1975 witnesses are gone or barely in.. is the older generation still around in the kingdom halls or are they much gone?.

I very clearly remember it. Not just our congregation or circuit or district. Everyone I knew was caught up in it. A family in one congregation was in sold their house and moved to a remote area to pioneer. How those children suffered! The family ran out of money, eventually living in a house that should not have been inhabited. I don't think there was electricity or heat. I hope they all recovered.

I always take the opportunity to tell people the truth about JWs. It sometimes does come up in conversation, especially when talking about holidays, childhood, etc. They are not the harmless group they would have anyone believe.

It can depend on the congregation. I have a friend whose family is in Florida. She said their belief is that the borg has loosened the teaching based on love. I told her that is not the way it is in most places. That congo is also full of EMTs and, I think, some police officers. I don't know how they get away with doing their own thing.
