There's no point in going unless you will agree to change your stance. You're clear of them, let it go. You will have more friends and chosen family. The org is all about conditional love to bully you into what they want.

by CitizenofEarth inmaybe some of you remember me, maybe not.
for general information i am now 19 years old, and living by myself.
for the past 1 year (more like 1.5 years) i have been quietly fading out of the hypocrisy of this organization, but since i still live in the town i grew up in it has been hard, and filled with different challenges.

Marriage in JW land is NOT an equal partnership; it is not a partnership. The WTS considers the man the head, the wife to be in subjection to him. I've been out a long time, so if things have softened, I've missed it. I believe the elders would push him to do everything he can to refuse to have a tree in the house or any touch of celebration. As for children, he would fight to not have you take them to your church. I'm so sorry you do not have the marriage arrangement you signed up for, what you made your vows to. There is no equality in lives of JWs, they are right in their own eyes and must have their way. You've seen this from his mother. She'll feel she has a right to direct you, too. Unbelievers are considered by some to be weak minded. My heart goes out to you.

For your daughter's sake, your ex needs to get free from her family. I know you're separated, but maybe you can work with her to get her independent and away from their strings-attached "help."

Where do I go now?
by Libby inso i thought my purpose was to serve jehovah and get baptised.
where do i go now to get baptised?
is baptism even a requirement for serving god or was that just for the disciples and people of that time.

Libby, take a deep breath and prepare to do lots of reading. The JWs have you only when you accept they are god's instrument. You'll get a lot of help here, disregard those who are unkind, if anyone is. I found this site many years ago and it was an enormous help.

Major changes to convention security beginning in 2017
by Edison Trent inshort info on interesting changes to the major conventions this year: there will be a new security concept that will be implemented at all regional conventions in 2017.. similar to other major events (e.g.
festivals, concerts), there will be admittance controls in stadiums.. - at each entrance, there will be a massive presence of attendants that look at each visitor.. - there will be pocket checks at the entrance.. - suspicious persons are no longer left on the convention grounds.. - suppliers to the stadium will be intensively inspected by attendants.. - there will be a special sign for attendants that must enter the stadium before 7.30 am.
all others (even all attendants) can only enter after 7.30 am..

I don't know about handling bags or persons in other countries, but I think Blondie's correct. About 20 years ago my family was stopped going into the Silverdome. We had badges and and books but looked suspicious to them for some reason. The attendants were turning us away when my VIP brother in law came and we were let in. I've never figured it out.

How did you feel when you got baptized?
by Schnufti inback in 2005, i remember sitting in the stadium in the special rows with 42 others.
8000 people were looking at us - maybe even with a binocular - while listening to the speech.
my family and my friends among them, being all proud of me.. i don't remember being enthusiastic.

Has anyone here joined a different church after ditching the JWs?
by NikL ini am just curious.. i have a cousin who is a baptist and his church streams their sunday services and i've been checking them out before i go to meeting with my jw wife.. i haven’t been to a church except for the occasional funeral and wedding and the only sermons i had heard were the tel-evangelist type.
anyway, all the church bashing by jws over the years made me unsure what to expect and i was pleasantly surprised.
they do use the bible and they don't spend the whole time begging for money.

Still Totally ADD, I am a UU, too. I still had two young children when I left j-dubs and was looking for a community. Nothing like walking off a cliff and leaving family and friends behind! My daughter's best friend's mom was the RE director at the local UU church and she described it and invited us to come. After a few weeks I went to the new-comer welcome and asked if it was christian based and if I had to believe any doctrine. The answer to both was NO. That was 18 years ago. I've been more or less active since then. I'm on the Social Justice Council; I love that we can really help others! I'm in Ann Arbor MI>

Are There Many JWs That Have Actually Left?
by minimus init seems that most people who have been witnesses that i've known in the last 20 years are still jws.
they may not be as zealous as before but they still remain as jehovah's witnesses.

My daughter is in her mid 40s and she's found many of her old friends are out. They've connected by FB and other social media platforms. I'd say the majority are out but I wouldn't guess the percentage.

Cooking With Cast Iron
by Simon ini can't even remember what got me interested in pans, probably wanting to try cooking more and watching some cooking videos on youtube, but i kind of started wanting to get a cast-iron skillet specifically so started reading up on them.
hey, if you're going to spend $50 on something you need to study them and create a comparison spreadsheet ... right?.
not only did cast-iron look great for cooking but there are some studies that show risks to aluminium / teflon cookware ... not that the wts was "right" about aluminium, but teflon can give off carcinogenic chemicals if overheated (so what if it chips off into your food?).

I have my grandmother's pans, one a ten inch the other rather small, maybe five or six inches. I'm so happy to have them!
Listener, was your pan made in China? I've heard they are inferior and it's a common event.
My daughter found some old cast-iron pans in her inlaws shed. They thought they were ruined and were going to throw them away. She took them home and they are beautiful.
