Nark - I think I saw that burning of the straw man in a movie called Wicker Man
this was me the last time i got to go...sheesh i stayed loaded for 6 days in a row...slept on st charles waiting for the parades..*lol* i wished i hadn't lost all those images.
why mardi gras is better than other holidays.. on thanksgiving you watch a parade and eat turkey.. at mardi gras you watch parades and eat popeye's fried chicken.. on halloween little kids dress up in costume and beg for treats.. at mardi gras everyone dresses up in costume and begs for treats.. on easter you hunt for colored eggs.. at mardi gras you hunt for a restroom.. on valentines you give the ladies candy and hope for a kiss.. at mardi gras you give the ladies beads and hope for more.. on st. patrick's day you drink green beer.. at mardi gras you turn green from your first meal of the day, a lucky dog with everything on it at 7am.. on the 4th of july we watch fireworks and drink beer.. at mardi gras we watch fireworks and drink hurricanes.. on new year's day we party like there is no tomorrow and make resolutions.. at mardi gras we party for days and days and ask for absolution.. on labor day you are reminded to be grateful for your job.. at mardi gras the last thing you can remember is your job.. on your birthday you eat cake and remember you are a year older :-(.
at mardi gras you eat king cake and are reminded to make your reservations for next year!.

every once in a while we get disturbed or annoyed over something that takes place here.
for a change, let's express reasons why we're happy to be here.......i'll give one reason amongst many.
there are so many enlightening posters here!
Curiosity is what attracted me and the members, their support, debates, research and empathy for each other is what's kept me here.
Galaxy - what inspired you to paint this specific scene? It's really beautiful
lol!
there's been so many posters with milestones lately, i was beginning to feel a little left out!
then i decided that there doesn't need to be a special reason to celebrate on this party board!!!
did someone say PARTY!?????
Whooooooo Hooooooooo *chair dancin' for ya now
happy ash wednesday all.
now begins the season of penance anticipating the resurrection.. our knights of columbus council sponsored a "fat tuesday" pancake dinner last night.
great success, over 220 people came and stuffed themselves on pancakes, bacon, and sausage.
Why don't Baptists reconize this Season? Sweets!? Auugggggg Do sugar free 'sweets' count? Jello & fresh fruits would usually keep my sweet tooth calm. I was never Catholic, and can only guess this was one of the Seasons Protestants brought with them during the Reformation.
i don?t know how many caught this, but the watchtower of march 1st, seems to put a new twist on a familiar watchtower theme of power and control by the gb.
did you notice the last 3 paragraphs of the last study article?
to me, they?re pregnant with hidden meaning, that is, regarding the power struggle that has been going on since the creation of a plethora of corporations a few years ago.. .
Alternate headline:
How to backpedal and not a lienate The Boomers
Curious to see what happens next.

Thanks Mike! We're heading to Ash Wednesday service this afternoon and missed Madri Gras yesterday due to the weather. I'm giving soda up for Lent and am going to concentrate on studying the Bible now that we're settled for a few months.
In PA we called it Fasnacht Day and churches would sell donughts for Tues, Morning. My husband said Southern Baptists don't reconize (celebrate) this season and so we haven't for the past three years.
ok...time for some fun...it's friday for god sakes...lol.
i love merlot's and chardonnays...of course i love champagne!!!

at the service meeting last night, we were told that even at the memorial, we should not talk to disfellowshipped individuals.
also, i don't know if there is any truth in this, but disfellowshipped ones are generally not invited to the memorial.
when did the "memorial season" begin?
Truth - I'm so sorry to read about your marriage and understand the mental prison we create for ourselves. Is you family involved with the JW's? Are some congergations more welcome to DF'd members than others? As far as the Memorial - this is the first thread I've read about this particular ceremony. Is it like a re-creation of the Last Supper? Who gets to play Jesus?
On the Protestant side, it depends on the type of church. I went to a military church that had communion every week simply due to the number of soldiers coming and going. Others have it once a month, once a quarter or twice a year. The elements can be received at the alter by a minister or at the pews with trays of wine/grape juice and bread (leaven and non). Once again that depends on the church. This is done in rememberance of Christ and is not seen as a mystical transformation of the elements. Growing up I was not allowed to partake until I learned what it was about and why we reconize it. I always thought it morbid to partake and yet remember why He died and an overwhelming feeling of saddness hits me.
hehe..... do you like really "buffed" mean?
what is important to you in terms of your man's musculature?
big, bulging biceps?
A long long time ago I was attracted to men like that. However watching age and gravity I realized the buffy men got flabby and later on fat. Hummmmm.... Anyhow my honey is/was built like a swimmer and that's great for me. He was'nt the most built - but his confidence and attitude made him seem 8 feet tall.
