My sister is getting married on July 27th. She is marrying a Catholic, after being raised a Witness, but she has been living with him for over a year, so she has not been approved of by my parents for a while. As the black sheep of the family myself, I have helped her to get over the needing to please the parents thing and see that she will never be able to. Well....she called me in tears because not only is my stepfather (her father) NOT going to walk her down the aisle (the wedding isn't even at a church), my brother has some misgivings about it AND my mother has given her this huge lecture about how she hoped they weren't going to have a prayer at the wedding, because that would be wrong...Oh, she also expressed disgust that my sister is going to have me and the best man read a scripture from the bible....It's just sad, you know? What is supposed to be the best day of my sister's life is being used to hurt her so they can get across their point...One funny thing is that my birthday is two days before the wedding, so I am going to fly into Indiana on Thursday and then we are going to go celebrate my birthday Friday night, while my mom babysits my youngest! Wonder if she'll even realize what day it is?

Did any of you ever read the book Dead Man Walking-it was very different from the movie-not really so much about one man's story as the death penalty in general. Anyway, you may find this hard to believe, but it costs more tax dollars to kill them. I personally am against the death penalty, but a good part of the reason for that is that I think it is too easy to just "put them to sleep". I would rather they have to survive in prison for the rest of their lives. JMHO.
BUT if I did ever hear of a case that I would want the person to have the death penalty-I have to say it would be this one. I can understand initial panic-especially on drugs when nothing seems real...but the next day when she had a dying man in her garage or whatever. It is one of the most horrible things I have ever heard...WHY does this stuff always happen in Texas???.

Although I have not lived as a JW for years-I moved out of my parents home when I was just 16-I have still had that part of me that was terrified. Terrified that my daughter would be killed at Armageddon because I had not raised her as a Witness, terrified that they may be "the truth", etc...I started posting on this site-well, more reading than posting at this point- but basically because of all of the info I have found here that has been proving to me to be the truth. I have always felt that the organization was very cult-like, but to really see that has been enormously helpful to me, and then to see their doctrines disproved over and over has also been a great help in allowingm e to officially get past it.

New here...(my story and a request for help)
by stephaniesays ini was raised in the organization.
my stepfather was a ministerial servant but was removed when i was 14, due to family problems, which he blamed on me (he was abusive, physically, and was told that if he cannot control his family, he could not be an example to the congregation).
i became pregnant at 15 and have not really lived around my family since then.

I'm in Houston, but my parents used to live not too far from Dallas..Plano, I think-is that close? I think I visited there once and it was "dry". We had to fill out a special card to drink a beer! Is anyone in the Houston area?

Thanks a lot. I have gotten so much great information off of this board in just a few short days...I appreciate the listed scriptures! Although I have not lived as a JW for years, it is still amazing to finally start to become free of the beliefs!

I'm actually a pretty big fan of everything INXS ever did...Was that the one with Beautiful Girl on it? I think that one came out in 91-92 or close to it-sad that Kick was the most popular album-I didn't find it to be the best at all...
