My son is not sure about what he has been taught about the common ancestor
by KateWild inthis week my son expressed he is agnostic as he is not sure what to believe about evolution and the common ancestor.. i thought any jw hang ups were gone.
i told him that what they teach in school is trustworthy and he can be rest assured that there is evidence to support that the common ancestor was the real link to the evolution of humans.. he has got critical thinking skills.
and responded with "for hundreds of years schools have been teaching things and have changed their thoughts".

Cofty, I don't understand the series, because I am not interested in biology. It's not a linear subject like chemistry.
You haven't written the series at a lamans level. There are too many phrases that are non comprehensive to the laman at my level of high school biology.
I understand that you have put a lot of effort into writing the series and its commendable. But it's not going to hold the attention of a teenager or someone who only has high school biology qualifications.
Thank you for your responses. I appreciate you want to help and be supportive thanks very much

Okay Angus,
Just checked out the book. A big fat no. I am not buying him anything by Dawkins. He is a fundamentalist and he writes with bias. I don't care if my son believes in God or not. I just want him to know evolution is a fact.
Cofty, I will check out your books too.

LUHE,
To find out what the common ancestor is and what teenagers are taught at school.....look up on google " bitsize evolution GCSE "
Cofty, I have seen all your threads about evolution. I don't understand them. I appreciate how much effort you put into them but really if I don't understand the biology then how can I expect to teach it to my son.
The GCSE teaching of human evolution is very simple. I understand it and it is a fact. I just need a way to help my son realise that it is fact.
Angus, thanks for the suggestion of the book. I will have a look now.

He has got critical thinking skills. And responded with "for hundreds of years schools have been teaching things and have changed their thoughts". He gave me an example which I can't remember now. ButI commended him for his critical thinking skills.
He is only 14 so I need to approach him with material that he will understand.
Do you have any ideas how I can prove to him that the evolution of humans coming from a common ancestor is a fact and not an opinion?

Simon: What happens when you can no longer support this site?
by StephaneLaliberte inhey simon, .
the recent closure of jwr made me realize that this site may not be eternal as well.
a great deal of people attach a lot of importance to xjw communities and yours is the best.

Introduction - Any Believers?
by Believer ini’ve been reading it for a few of years off and on, but have been a little too ... maybe ... timid to join.
i left the watchtower organization almost 20 years ago but never abandoned my faith and belief in god.
i knew the gb/organization didn’t represent god, so when i lost my faith in them, i managed to keep my faith in an all wise benevolent creator.

Hey Believer......we could certainly be in the minority but I think there are a lot of atheists with strong personalities that want to prove believers are wrong.
A lot of the believers don't get involved in those debates so it might appear there are less.
To be fair, I understand that it's nice to have common ground, but sometimes it doesn't matter if people are atheist or not unless they are pushing their beliefs and trying to convert people.
I am here daily. So if you want to talk about chemistry and enantiomers let me know.

by Designer Stubble inmessage from designer stubble to the former jwr members.
first of all i am glad to see that many of you have found your way to this great forum, facilitated by simon.
i am sure that after the dust of the jwr shutdown has settled, you will find this to be a good new home.. i would like to apologize for the sudden closure of jwr.

DS....it's very nice and caring of you to start this thread and answer PMs this shows how much fellow feeling you have.
Its refreshing to see that many xJWs are infact more compassionate than JWs.
Good luck with your moving on.

Hello Believer,
Yes I still believe in a creator. I left WT in 2013 but I have not lost all my faith.
I am also a chemical analyst by trade and what I have studied about specific scientific processes is evidence for me that evolution required some guidance. So I don't dismiss a creator.
There are still some of us here.

Welcome y'all from JWR - any questions?
by Simon ini just wanted to take a minute to say "hi" and welcome to the site for anyone who's come here from jwr.
i can imagine the site being shut down suddenly was shocking and unsettling for many who relied on it and sometimes you don't realize how much you do rely on something until it is gone.. hopefully you'll see some of the same familiar names appearing and be able to reconnect with people you knew via this site and continue your journey together.
i don't know what the posting policies on jwr were but know it as a moderated site so can't imagine them being hugely different to the ones here.

I would like to say welcome too. I don't post as much as I used to. But I am here daily to support those who are asking for it.
I left due to the mishandling of domestic violence in WT. If this is your experience too or you want to know more, I have a YouTube and JC recording. PM me for it if you want to listen.
Welcome again
