Witness Carts - A Vehicle for Significant Decline

i was stalking to a jw today about her recent experience on the carts and with being a jw generally.

until this conversation i considered the carts as just an ineffective preaching method and a harmless waste of time.

but now i wonder if the effect of the carts might be to produce noticeable decline in jw numbers.

Good thread. I think the decline is due to multiple things, but certainly trolley preaching is a factor.

I haven't spoken to them in a while. But when I do they usually seem keen to converse and they haven't spoken to anyone else.

It's now okay to applaud when someone is reinstated?

anyone else notice that in the video where the sister was reinstated after many years of freedom, that the congregation applauded at the announcement of her reinstatement?

it been a few years since i was an elder, but when i was, we were instructed by the co that it was "not appropriate" to applaud when the announcement of a reinstatement is made from the platform.

his words, "because the one being reinstated is only doing what they should be doing!".

my initial pangs of unease and doubt led me to research some things.

well, a lot of things really.

i've never felt comfortable using the bible to try to calculate dates (1914).

I felt the same as I loved being a witness and part of a community. But I was already df'd when I woke up.

You are in a better position you can plan your exit and do things your way. You can be in control of your future.

You can plan days out with your wife and weekends away to do more exciting things than meetings.

Take it slow.....but show her love and fun.

Challenge to Creationists

in response to the 37 threads in my evolution is a fact series - see bottom of op for links - perry posted a link to an article "44 reasons why evolution isn't true".. i offered him a challenge on the thread and by pm.

predictably he is totally ignoring it, so i am offering the challenge to any evolution-denier who thinks they have evidence to support their position.. please present one specific piece of evidence for creationism.. my task will be to refute it with evidence within 24 hours.. then i will present one piece of evidence for evolution and your challenge will be the same.. all posts must be as succinct as reasonably possible.

entirely in your own words, without copy-paste, videos or links.. please post your interest to take part and we will set it up before the first actual post in the exchange.

You already know that you are being dishonest. I have explained the answer to your question about homochirality in considerable detail more than once and referred you to the work of a Japanese scientist who solved the puzzle. It is a common tactic of creationists to ignore an answer, wait a few weeks and then post the same objection as if it had not been answered. - Cofty

I know in my heart I am not being dishonest. I am a very honest person with integrity. Your argument is not conclusive or satisfying. Just because you are happy with your conclusions doesn't mean we all are. I don't consider myself a creationist either. I am not ignoring your answer just saying you're wrong in your perception of an autocatalyst. But the point is we are at a stalemate situation and I agree there are different interpretations of the scientific facts and there is no definite conclusion either way.

You're just too stubborn and conceited to admit it.

Our Letter to Our Family

our families have cut off contact with us for the last several months.

they found out that we were celebrating holidays with our non-witness family.

our families were our last tie to the organization, as our former friends stopped associating with us about 3 years ago.

Whoopsie - I did a DoS attack against myself !

sorry the site was offline for a short while - i kicked off a re-index of the site to pick up the http -> https changeover and, well, i didn't put any rate limits in place so google went full bore at it.

having the site hosted in google's data centre probably helps it go faster than normal.. in other news, i now know the site can scale to handle an insane number of requests if it ever needs to (as long as i put some more coins in the meter)..
