Anyone know of a Doctor, Lawyer or other "Professional" who is JW?

i was just wondering.

since college was (still is?

) discouraged, have any of you known persons of higher education to be in the organization, either by completing it while in or became jw afterwards?

Though reared in the 'truth', we did not hold to the education is the great "satanic evil" doctrine in our family. Both my wife and I attended major universities and hold professional degrees. Because we are still known we don't want to reveal a great deal about our personal lives. Suffice it to say that

We encouraged all three of our children to be the best at whatever they chose to become. My boys are both physicians as well, and have taken over my practice, allowing us time to pursue other venues that are far more profitable in a monetary sense. Our daughter, now married, is a fine (we think) attorney in private practice along with her husband.

BTW the latest from the ?House? (Brooklyn Bethel) is that they are now sending at least two Bethelites to Dental school due to a severe lack of assistance (AKA free care) in that field. They have in the past sent two perhaps more to Law school. Two just recently passed the Bar. So much for the evils of higher learning.

Question about letters to society.

hi.. i was reading another post about asking for your personal files.

i was wondering if anyone knew if the society send copies of letters you have sent to them to your congregation.. i recently sent them a letter asking about the old information about the 1914 generation on their website.. i received a letter back from them that didn't answer the question (what's new) but was more a slap on the wrist for even deigning to ask.

i was directed to a couple of articles about the apreciation and good use of older publications and told that older light had to be taken into regard with newer light and that older books still have their worth as long as we use newer ones as well.... talk about confusing.. anyway, i was wondering if they would send the elders in my congregation a copy of my letter to them?.

As we understand it, all correspondence sent to the US branch (not sure about any other areas) is scanned into a docement retrieval system. Then any letters written previously by that person are reviewed along with the current document. Copies of most letters are fowarded on to the local elder body and sometimes also to the CO and DO with specific instructions on how to handle the matter. The reply usually sent back to a publisher from the Bethel CIA (AKA Service Dept under J. Edgar Jaracz) is vague and self serving at best.

Though I am no longer interested in corresponding with that whore in Brooklyn, my attorney suggests using the following on each page of any piece of correspondence:

"Copyright 2004 by (your name). No portion of this document may be copied or reproduced in any manner, including introduction into automatic data retrieval systems, without the express written consent of the author. The author intends to vigorously prosecute any violation of this copyright."

Then let's sit back and see how many letters get copied and mailed around. Would make for an interesting law suit and another scandal for the harlot riding on the back of the UN.

A question on Matt. 18 and Judicial Committees

in times past when serving as an elder i was always irritated that other elders would want to jump to judicial actions before the "offended one" had carried out the below cited steps.

oh i know the wt cia (aka service dept) says this is for minor sins, but i don't read that in these verses of matt 18:.

"moreover, if your brother commits a sin, go lay bare his fault between you and him alone.

In times past when serving as an elder I was always irritated that other elders would want to jump to judicial actions before the "offended one" had carried out the below cited steps. Oh I know the WT CIA (AKA Service Dept) says this is for minor sins, but I don't read that in these verses of Matt 18:

If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take along with you one or two more, in order that at the mouth of two or three witnesses every matter may be established. 17 If he does not listen to them, speak to the congregation. If he does not listen even to the congregation, let him be to you just as a man of the nations and as a tax collector.

So does this apply just to petty grievances or does it apply to all types of "sin"?

The latest buzz phrase from Bethel

have heard recently from some bethel folks that a new buzz phrase is being tossed around from the bethel breakfast table.

"jehovah and jesus are in charge so no one will ever be damaged permanently.".

guess this means elders, co's, do's, the bethel cia (aka the service department) all can do whatever they want, to whomever they want, in any manner they want, and it will be ok because jehovah will not let anyone be damaged permanently.. oh boy, here we go again.. beat the sheep with complete disregard.. dr. j

Don't know about plastic mag. covers. Never used one myself. Only leather. (No comments please)

As to that awful rendition of House to House, that's a track from what is reportedly the worst sold album in the entire portfolio of WT music albums produced: "Singing Kingdom Songs". When we received our copy after it's release we were in shock at the poor quality of almost the entire album. We were told that the singer sans-voice lessons was a former DO Charles Sinutko. He sang this song years ago at the special meeting where Harold King spoke about his long incarceration. Heard Knorr was not impressed either.

"Singing Kingdom Songs" was the brain-child of Karl Klein and Joe Spinelli. Supposedly The WT studio production staff at Bethel was less than pleased at having to produce this project.

Governing Body Stories

i was wondering if anybody here has any stories about members of the governing body?

has anyone here personally met one of them?.

Oh my GB members. Over the years we've met and entertained many, some even staying in our home.

Nathan Knorr - a pompous twit.

Dan Sydlik - not your ordinary GB member. Will actually stick his neck out for Bethelites he thinks have been wronged. He is moody. But his quick wit is often mistaken for grumpiness.

Ted "the Boss" Jaracz - dangerous. Don't trust him as far as I can throw a Mann press. Wants to be in control all the time. Head of the Bethel CIA the service department. Unkind, lacking in fellow feeling.

Jack Barr - a true gentleman. A great people person. Goes out of his way to make people feel comfortable.

Burt Schroeder - out there. Not quite sure if, even in his younger days, he's all there at times. Lovely wife - Charlotte - a true gem.

Barber - comes up with some really funny one liners. But he's been past it for a long time.

Fred Franz - loved fishing. Burt Schroeder once caught a fish hook in Fred's scalp. Not serious, Fred thought it was funny. Fred used to come to breakfast and eat a spoonful of honey in a cup of hot water... that's it. I always expected him to bring out a locust or two.

Lyman Swingle- what a mouth on him. Had the capability of cussing like a sailor. He once told us this story about Bethelites

40 years ago you could tell a new boy (new Bethelite) to go jump off the top of the 117 building and he'd do it.

20 years ago the would ask "Do I have to?" and then go do it.

Now they say "show me a scripture."

George Gangas - I don't need a television I see visions in my head.

How many of you gave up a college scholarship?

how many of you gave up a college scholarship to appear "spiritual"?

jt's thread about "homegrown lawyers" and the wtbs willingly sending certain ones to college started me thinking about that question.

i know i for one, relinquished that scholarship to show how "spiritual" i was at 18. .

No way Jose. My wife and I are both grads of great universities. We took quite a bit of heat for it as young collegians but they sure did take our checks over the years after that. Our boys and daughter are both graduates. The twins following in the medical profession.

Thankfully we didn't become dumbed down as dubs.

We've known Jack Carlton for many years. Stayed in their home in Palm Beach before they were lured to Walkill. Though sometimes naieve, he's not a thief, or a liar. This writer seems certifiable at best. A litle shock therapy might be prescribed.

What did you actually enjoy about JW meetings?

as much as i dreaded going to all the meetings there were things that i did enjoy.. 1. no special parking spaces for the elders, etc.. 2. no collections plate going around the room.

3. no one person giving the talk every single week (can you imagine the same speaker 3 to 4 times a week, every day?

Do you know why we clap at the end of a meeting? 'cause it's over!

Seriously, the people were the most enjoyable and the most important part.
