  I haven't been to the Big Apple in many years, but here's a suggestion.

  If you're interested in live music, get a copy of the Village Voice from your local library. It has hundreds of listings of artists playing in clubs - and I mean big names of whatever genre you love. Maybe you could pick up advance tickets.

  Do you love art? THINK OF THE ART GALLERIES!!!!

  Shopping for vintage clothes in the Village!!!!

  Also, I went to Radio City Music Hall. Don't know if it still has shows, but that was one amazing experience that I will never forget.

  One tour I was made to take but don't recommend - you got it. WT farm and the book factory in Brooklyn. Two days of seeing people living like monks and really depressed me. (not that you'd be considering that anyhow).

  yes, an AMAZING book and, although written for womyn, the parables and lessons learned can be utilized by everyone. I have shared with (some of) my male friends and they have found it useful learning as well.

  Funny thing about this book. I will be going through a rough patch, and I'll pick it up and begin to read a chapter randomly. Seems that I always hit on the lesson I need to get me through the hard time. It's good to talk to another who has discovered this treasure.

  I have one friend from my JW days. He has been out (never baptized, so not DFd) as long as I (20-some years). He is wracked by guilt and covers it by drowning himself in booze. We have had many discussions about this. He doesn't understand how I can reject the JWs without fearing Armageddon. I don't understand why he still cares, but I accept his feelings.

  My best friend growing up, I have not seen in 25 years . Although I called her about 5 years ago, she will not meet with me because she is leading a double life and afraid to get caught. We were like sisters. I have spent many hours grieving for her and the fear of reprisal that she lives with daily.

  I hope you will be okay, Scooby, with this double life. It takes a severe toll emotionally, imho. If it ever comes crashing down, pls remember that you can (at least) turn here for support. Many on this board express warm feelings for you.

  It is hard for some, like yourself, to make a definitive choice. Above all, take care of yourself, do what your gut tells you.

  Countering claim..."it's only imperfect men.."

  how would you counter the jw response, when faced with major issues (child abuse, autocratic/hypocritical elders, changing doctrines, dates, blood issue, etc etc) ..."yes but it's only imperfect men ..jehovah is using them but will put things right in his own time".

  this blindness to reality allows any error to be accounted for and ignored - "wait on jehovah" covers any error .

  yet the rank & file swallow this as if it was a logical reasoned answer to the issues raised - is there a way to open the eyes of those who parrot these words when confronted with any issue ?.

  I tell my parents the same thing "well, if so many in the org are corrupt, how can it be the only truth. When Jah decides to clean it up, maybe I will reconsider my life choice". They just can't hear. And I'm secure in my knowledge that the above clean-up will never happen.

  My experience has been that it is a waste of energy and breath to talk logic.

  You need to make your own decision about this. Just please take care of yourself. If you feel like you are beating your head against a brick wall and coming away from the discussion feeling battered, that's a good time to stop, or at least take a break.

  Any Contractors here that can HELP ME?????????????????????

  i am still hanging on by a thread here, but i think the thread is a little stronger then it was a month ago.

  to those of you who are knowledgeable in the world of contracting or construction or building code standards, please help with some advice.

  our apartment is sinking slowly.

  plmkrzy,

  Here's some help for the mold. I have severe reactions: headache, fuzzy head, crankiness, it makes you crazy!

  BORAX kills mold. As a stopgap solution it may help. Available at the grocery store in the bleach/detergent section - it is NOT bleach.

  Mix it up as directed w/water and cover all affected areas inside your apartment. Just dip a rag in the solution (you don't need to wear gloves) and wipe down all affected areas once every two weeks. I know it's a bit of work, but it will kill the surface mold and give you and your son some immediate, if temporary, relief.

  I hope this is a some help. Molds are V. dangerous.

  your thread really touched me as I had a (formerly) close family member shun me yesterday. It hurt a lot, no details needed. I started thinking of how we could exchange some positive energy.

  I went out for a walk about an hour ago (430 a.m. here) and looked up at the beautiful half-moon and realized you, too, might be looking at that same moon. Wow, the energy just zoomed - east to west coast, in a flash! I hope you received.

  Anytime you want, just look out at the moon or the stars, and you can be reminded that I am at your side, sharing your pain, sending you some of my strength.
