i thought all the embarssing books were supposed to be thrown out?

i had a look in the library last meeting and my hall still has all the bound volumes going right back to the beginning.

including studies in the scriptures.

i thought the order from on high was that these were to be destroyed or taken away?

My father has quite a collection, from Studies in the Scriptures, and most, if not all, of the old Judge's books, right up to the latest CDRoms (well, up to 2010, we haven't spoken in a couple of years). He has all the bound volumes, books and yearbooks, etc. from 1950 forward and more. They are 'family heirlooms' that his JW son and grandsons, ironically, have no interest in owning, which was very disappointing to him. He granted me permission a few years back to catalogue and sell them, but then I got sick, and by the time I was 'up' to doing it, I had cut all contact with my parents. I wish I had done that now. *sigh*

i look at the words that are found john 6:66-70 and picture a delusional person faced with a huge loss in followers because he wasn't able to make his words pleasing to some and he lost them:.

53 so jesus said to them: most truly i say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the son of man and drink his blood, you have no life in yourselves.+54 whoever feeds on my flesh and drinks my blood has everlasting life, and i will resurrect+ him on the last day; 55 for my flesh is true food and my blood is true drink.

I never thought of it that way, but hell to the yah!

Someone said that to me about 5 years ago; my only family member with whom I am secretly in touch. *grins* I get strong vibes that he has never really 'believed', and he said to me once, rather wistfully "But where would I go?"

And when I think of it, with a lifetime of being in the b'Org, marrying young, never 'readhing out' to be an MS, but faithfully attending and going in FS only the minimum, yeah, he doesn't believe. But it would be daunting to go out into the world, at 50+, and leave the KH (his spouse is a True Believer, as is most of the family), and all that you knew behind.

They truly do drill this scripture into our heads from birth (yes, we are born-in, my family), and by their isolation of the cult members, reinforce the very real fear of being alone in a world of scary, untrustworthy strangers.

This is not happifying.

Consider the "outcome" when elders apply the two-witness "rule"

jehovahs witnesses two-witness rule is applied by elders when a witness member accuses another member of a sin, even if that sin is a criminal act.

if there arent two witnesses to the accusation, it goes nowhere, including not being reported to the authorities.

and in the case of an allegation of child abuse, the accused is free to molest again.. watchtower attorney, jim mccabe, recently stated this about jehovahs witnesses two-witness rule which he described as a bible-based belief :.

BA, I have some answers, but have been threatened in the past to keep my mouth shut. There have been others on the board who know what i'm thinking of, but hell, I would never bring it up here. First off, few would believe me, and second, I want to be left alone by my former abusers.

"Those who talk, will have their mouths shut for them."

PS, the threats had NOTHING to do with JWN. They were made in person, and locally. You seem to have been well-connected in the b'Org, and perhaps you know what I am alluding to. If not, that's okay as well.

Mental Disorders among JW's

hi everyone, im begining to notice patterns of mental issues in the congregations and among the witnesses as a group.

do you think this is a trend in the entire world or is it exagerated in this organization?.

Spectre - whoa, you have been through the fire. And I agree with your conclusion "It tells them what they want to hear." I see that in my family ,, oh yeah.

You've also reminded me of a boy I grew up with, a JW. He was a sweet guy. Then, one day we heard on the news that he had stabbed a local girl to death, like 15 or 20 times, very brutal. We were the same age, around 17/18 years old. He was found guilty, and sentenced to life in prison. Of course, this was big news and all over the press at the time (mid-70s). He had been hearing voices that told him to kill the next person that came along. I went to see him while he was still in the local jail (he had to do federal time, of course, in another province). By this time, several years had passed, as it takes time for these things to go through the so-called justice system.

Anyway, he had grounds for appeal because of the voices, so I asked him why he didn't appeal. He told me that he did it, and wanted to go to prison and pay for it. He was never diagnosed with anything. I feel sure that the upbringing in the WTS had a lot to do with his psychotic break. So sad.

Thanks, Oubliette. It's just old skills, having been a teacher at a community college years ago, writing my own courses (personal computing in the 80s, it was a new field back then, and hey, those were exciting times!), and corporate trainer for a while. I really admire teachers like yourself, though. It is truly a calling, and if you are teaching in the public school system, underpaid. Take care of yourself and don't get burnt out.

It's amazing to me that people believed the BS about the UN and 1975. Then it amazed me more, that they stayed in the cult, and believe this 'generations' nonsense. It's crazy, what?

watch towers child abuse payouts

if you had to guess, how much do you think wt pays out in child abuse settlements every year on a world wide scale?

I remember when I first discovered the list of settlements on Rick Ross' anti-cult site, back in 2004 or so ... I was amazed there were so many! And that was, if memory serves me correctly, just in the USA. They have been settling these cases out-of-court for at least 15 or 20 years. And worldwide? It has to be in the millions.

It would be great to see an huge class action suit. If I had the evidence, I would definitely sue them. Let's hope these lawsuits accomplish two things:

1. Show the world what an evil cult the JWS is. The press loves a child abuse expose. Now that the ammunition is in the courts, we can expect to see more documentaries and stories on Britain's Channel 4, Canada's Fifth Estate, and other such programs.

2. Millions of USD bleeding from the coffers of the WTS and going into the bank accounts of their victims. Child sexual abuse is called 'soul murder', and righfully so! They deliberately and maliciously, for their own personal gain, colluded and continue to collude, with pedophiles. They need to be hit where it will hurt the most, and for any corporation, that means take their profits.

Thanks, metatron. That makes more sense. When I thought of the 1/4 million Iraqis who were collateral damage in the latest invasion (toppling of Hussein regime), I had to wonder.

I think you make a good point, in terms of the way JWS would see it. There is no 'great tribulation', the elite still rule the world, and the poor still feed their greed. Nothing new about that.

Just Kidding - hmm, it's been a long time, but it seems to me that the OP is spot on. My understanding of the interpretation is different. I was taught that first we would see the 'signs of the times' that are listed in Matthew (wars, earthquakes, etc.), and then Thessalonians comes into play. There will be a declaration of peace (which I was taught in the 60s, began with the creation of the United Nations), and then the end will come! In 1975. ahahaha,,, it's so twisted ........ even as I'm explaining what I was taught, I can see how I was 'learning' two sets of prophecy at the same time. The good old WTS, applying the CYA rule of business.

I agree, but have to question this ... What, precisely, is a 'violent war death'? As opposed to a non violent war death? That graph is not credible to me.

I really think it's no better or worse than it ever was. Just different. It all depends on one's perspective. If you're hungry, it matters not that others have food. If you are suffering, it matters not that others live in comfort. If you are dying of a horrible illness, it matters not that others can get medical treatment.

Live life to its fullest, be kind to all living things, do what you can to effect positive change in the world. Like Don Henley said in his indictment of the criminal justice system, titled "The Garden of Allah":

"'Because there are no facts, there is no truth
Just data to be manipulated
I can get you any result you like
What's it worth to you?'"
