dozy - mentally-challenged going in field service? I had never thought of that ... just another reason to hate the bOrg.

it has been a few months since i hear this from an elder.
he said that the c/o told them this new requirement.. "men that wanna be an elder or ministerial servant has to go out to field service on sundays.
if there is an elder or ministerial servant that is not going out to field service on sunday can lose the priviledge".
dozy - mentally-challenged going in field service? I had never thought of that ... just another reason to hate the bOrg.

to three people in my family, disfellowshipping / shunning is just a tool the wtbs uses to hide what really happened.... they don't want people to 'see behind the curtain.'.
.
.
their shunning of me is their way to hide from what happened in that house. While I believe that the religion provided the right environment that nurtured my parents' abusiveness decades ago, what happened in that house had nothing to do with religion and everything to do with what two adults decided to do to their children. Yet, they don't have to answer for it because they shun me. Good thread topic.
good morning america this morning featured their co-anchor sara haines and her husband-to-be (next weekend?
), roasting them and just having a good time.
however, and i don't know how to put this, he was wearing those anthony morris (governing body) no-nos -- leg hugging trousers.
Well, I just thought hmmmm .......
Prince, though more modestly dressed than in the 80s, still wears 'skinny leg' pants.
(Just how embarrassing is it for JWs when confronted with the "Thieves in the Temple" video, and Prince's ass-less chaps sans undergarments?)

i found this article interesting & just wanted to share.
after going through my teenage years trying to be the perfect jw, i realized that trying to live up to the standards imposed on me have been for worse & not for better.
i was feeling miserable, repressed, unfulfilled, with a great lack of self confidence & self esteem.
lambsbottom, your apology is negated by the comments that follow it.
It's unfortunate that you feel the need to belittle others' feelings in order to express your own pain. Instead of making snarky and insincere comments, you may find it more constructive to examine why you have such a strong and negative reaction to this subject.
Oh, and if you were truly sensitive to the thousands who are dying of starvation, you would *not* use the term "First world" - it is denigrating to the so-called "Third world countries", and is sooo 80s. ;)

Gary, that was a heart-breaking read. It has been quite a journey for you and your wife, and I wish you all the peace and happiness you can find.
Now that I think about it more, most of the UBM's that I can recall were always the husbands. I wonder if that's because a believing husband will tend to drag his unbelieving wife to the meetings or a wife just be more submissive and willing to go along with it? (yeah, us men are more stubborn and pig-headed, LOL).
Interesting question, Simon, and I have a different answer.
As a young JW woman, the pickings were SLIM. Not many zealous brothers that I admired, who were also attractive to my 18 YO eyes. And a lot of the JW boys led double lives andl felt they could pick and choose. One of them (a friend at the time, who later became Brother Zealous Elder) even had the nerve to tell me "Oh, don't worry about not being asked out - we like to have our fun with the slutty girls, but YOU are the marrying kind. Your turn will come". That was a turn-on (NOT), to know that they expected purity, but I was getting 'used goods'. hahaha
A lot of 'worldly' guys are very impressed with JW girls. So the JW girl strays, becomes inactive or DF, and is totally blown away at the number of guys who are asking her out, etc. She gets married, has a kid, and the next thing you know BOOM, JW guilt hits and she returns to the KH, and hubbie is now a UBM.

so - are we really about to exit the age of fossil fuels?
should i now sell my oil shares?
It's interesting to note that "Industry" is the sector which uses the most energy. with "Transportation" a distant second. Residential and personal use lags far behind that of industry.
Individuals are always being told to 'save energy' and switch off a lightbulb or change to the newest energy-saving thingamajiggy, when we should be looking to our 'captains of industry' to be producing smart energy (sheesh, Tesla figured it out a century ago, wake up!), and most importantly..........
STOP the mindless consumerism - that is how we shut down all the needless factories that are nothing more than cash cows for the filthy rich.
Oh, and here's a graph that shows world energy consumption by sector, first pie graph on the left.

i became employed with my current company after high school in 1995. i'm a manager and make decent income for the area i live ($65k).
it provides for the basic and some extra.
i have a wife and a daughter.
My bro, and a member here (sooner7nc), is just completing nursing school, and around your age. Here's the link to his thread about it. Everyone is cheering him on, and yes, it can be done - the sooner the better. :))

skin-tight pants are a no-no in public, church leader says,.
Well, I'm a firm believer that spandex should be banned. Allspandex. *shudders*
But seriously, as for Morris' comments, what a load of hogwash, and typical homophobic nonsensical 'reasoning'. It's good to see an article about this in the Advocate, which is really mainstream.

so is it possible to understand a reason and not respect it?
shouldn't understanding lead to a respect of the reasons and actions?.
or can you respect the reasons and actions without understanding them?.
That is pure judgemental thinking, and puts your mom, by default, on 'higher ground'. (At least in her own eyes, and those of other fundamentalists of various ilk).
She understands the temptations of the sin, but she is righteous enough to resist Satan's sins. Therefore, she does not respect the weak sinner, because the sinner has succumbed to Satan, and the temptations of the flesh! Sex!
i worked the election yesterday, here in california, poll worker, from 6 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. it was fun and interesting, went pretty smoothly, nice day.
it was very depressing to come home, look at the news, and find that the republicans now control the senate.. .
do you think canada would take me?
ahahaha @ smiddy!
I work at every election, sometimes as a poll worker (can't say that without smirking now, smiddy, love it hehehe), and THANKS! *puts hands on hips, and looks stern*, and others as a DRO (Deputy Returning Officer) which sounds like a big wheel but is nothing to write home about..
You're right. It's fun, good conversations, and easy money. It's a good way for the voting public to get involved, have a bit of fun, learn, and make a few bucks in the process. All things I like. *grins*
