That's an interesting site - I noted that quite a few congregations (at least the local ones I found) listed an elder as a fundraiser. One of them (in one of the poorest cities in Canada) has assets of over half a million dollars and took in revenue of about $150,000 in 2011, with expenditures of about 1/2 that.

and this made me chuckle (couldn't help myself) Charles Woody?

it looks as if the gb are blundering around and really showing themselves up for the buffoons they are.

all the stupidity about tight trousers is laughable and if the general public were to see these selfmportant cult leaders blabbing this stuff then the last shred of their credibility would be destroyed.........perhaps.. the wbt$ seem to have dug themselves into a deep pit of no escape with their lies, new light(tm), paedophile protection and all the other nauseating peripherals they have.. we also suspect that the wbt$ have their spies here because they are either predictable or get ideas form forums like this.. so!

Issue an edict to drink the Kool-Aid, for real. That will weed out all the people who are 'on the fence', and the corporation would be in hot water. Government would finally have to step in.

Those who drink the Kool-Aid can look forward to their reward in a "paradise". *shrugs* Well, they are miserable now, might as well end it.

It's all coming back...

i joined the board this month and holy cow, are there ever some interesting points of view here.. a bit about my background: my dad was an unbaptised born-in who nevertheless went to vietnam and college where he met my mom.

mom was lutheran, but dad told her the only religion he was interested in belonging to was the jdubs.

they married in the early 70s and were both baptized.

Hi there, and welcome. :))

That was a problem I had a while back with friends who were exploring wicca. Although I was drawn to the wonderful thoughts of loving the EARTH, the very word "ritual" sent me into flashback.

Once I researched paganism, and realized that 'demons', for us as exJWs, are mostly a Christian construct (and to the scholars on board, yes I KNOW that demons abound in other ancient religions, so please let me make a point without a technical analysis), I started to move from a position of fear to one of curiosity.

If you are an atheist, then let your logic prevail. It took me a while, but I let nature take its course - by that, I mean that I read about different pagan religions, and it was really interesting. I became even more drawn to those belief systems, and felt a kinship. Some pagans worship NO god, and there are so many ways to honour the 'old' ways, it's quite amazing.

My only real belief is in Gaia, and that is not a religion, but a philosophy. Simply put, the Earth is one organism, and we are one part of that organism, as are all the organic and nonorganic things on this beautiful planet. Working in harmony with our environment, and all other living things, can bring peace of mind and contribute to overall happiness.

it's been 12 years since i first read ray franz's books and the scales came off my eyes.

by that time i was in my forties.. since 2002 i went back to school and have worked with 3 very professional organizations.

but my biological clock is ticking away and while my peers are looking forward to retirement, i am only beginning.

as the unfortunate school-age children of jws worldwide, or at least in christendom, face up to two of what must certainly be the most dreaded days of the school year -- today and monday, i don't think it would be remiss to do pay them tribute -- the honor of a brief recognition of some sort, say by the raising of a glass, a prayer, a couple moments' reflection, whatever.. i refer to all those of the trembling knees, quivering lips, moistened eyes and hollow feelings in the pits of their little tummies as they loyally face up to the humiliation of standing aside from the masses of christmas celebrants among their school friends.

how they must agonize over dealing with the incessant questions of their mates about ``what are you going to do this christmas," ``what did santa bring you?

'' -- not to mention listening to the spirited banter of their school friends recounting how much fun they had and what they found under tree christmas morning, etc.

had a coversation with a very close friend (of 15 years) and understands how i feel about the wt org.

he himself is a serious doubter.

i on the other hand am not a doubter, i know with every living ounce of myself that this is a cult!

I hope that you two can stay friends. He sounds like a 'keeper'.

So sorry that you are going through the marital dischord that this religion foments. I hope your wife can learn TTATT, and hey, keep that friend. Some day, the two of you may be out and free together. If not, he may need your support in the future --- we can't judge others for staying "in", especially if they would have to leave family behind. I can testify that it is a hard road, depending on your circumstance, to have no family.

it seems like the list of people who are accusing him of rape and sexual assault is growing every day.

i'm skeptical of single accusations but the number of people and the similar stories seem overwhelming now.. it's not a conviction but to the court of public opinion ... guilty?.

After all is said, this is a sordid incident, and I'm glad that yet another RAPIST is revealed. I was 'roofied' in Vegas in 1980, and anyone who thinks that all these women are coming forward for 'fame' or 'money' can eat my shorts (as Bart Simpson would say)!
