At the time this pic was taken, the belief was "144,000" ....... ie, all of the anointed were considered the F&DS. If memory serves me.

Guns. Well said Mr President, if only your countrymen had the same courage to consider changing course.
by nicolaou inive had to make statements like this too many times.
communities like this have had to endure tragedies like this too many times.
once again, communities [were harmed] because someone who wanted to inflict harm had no problem getting their hands on a gun.. lets be clear: at some point, we as a country will have to reckon with the fact that this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries.

d4g .... yup, that's all been explained countless times, but national fervor seems to support the old NRA commercial I remember from the late 70s/early 80s. "I'll give up my gun when you pry it from my cold, dead, fingers".
Besides, GUNS don't kill people - PEOPLE kill people! doncha know!
.
OOPS, little socrates, you cherry-picked that,, tsk tsk ... that is called an 'out of context quote' ---- here's the remainder. (I underlined the part you 'forgot' in your quote.) Assuming you are not being intellectually dishonest - you prolly got so upset that you didn't finish reading the POTUS' statement, right? XD
this type of mass violence does not happen in other advanced countries. It doesn’t happen in other places with this type of freqeuency

i offer no apology.
you do, however, deserve an explanation.. my father, bless him and now dead, was a survivor of belsen, the german concentration camp.

I can understand that people enjoy ridiculing something they dislike, but when it's persistent it looks like a juvenile high-five each time. A "look at me, I'm being abusive, aren't I clever, and you can't stop me" kind of thing.

The incredibly white NAACP leader
by Simon inthis is a bizarre story.. there is a woman who is the local leader of the naacp who is obviously trying to mislead people into believing she is black who is actually white.
very white.. she obviously gets a tan regularly but looks more orange.
yes, orange really is the new black!.

You seem to be trying to excuse her behavior by claiming some unknown crimes that surely must be committed by some wealthy white people. That seems disingenuous.
I'm merely pointing out that she is no different than MANY CEOs of Fortune 500 comanies.
Disingenuous? Me? Hahaha. I just think it's interesting that this is such a big story, when 'everybody's doing it'. Those who think this woman is an 'exception', are the ones who are disingenuous. In my opinion.

All Christians Should Accept EVOLUTION
by FusionTheism init is time for christians to accept evolution, in my opinion.. there are many reasons why i think it is long overdue for all christians to finally accept what science says about evolution.
below i will show these reasons.. .
the bible tells people to pay attention to nature to see the glory of god (psalm 19; romans 1:19-20).

I do not believe evolution is the "driving force responsible for all the beauty, majesty and genetic order around us".
That's quite a broad statement, Frank.
There's a lot of beauty in this world, and I feel no need to credit a nameless, formless, construct of people who are unhappy and seeking a 'reason to live' for said beauty.
Actually, there is a lot of genetic DIS-order. It's not all perfect chromosomes. What about the people who are genetically programmed to give their children cystic fibrosis, or other diseases that are specifically genetic?
There is much beauty in nature, and amazing links between all species of flora and fauna.
If you will, look at pictures of the brain, the tree of life, and the Amazon River delta... you will see that nature repeats the same patterns. It's so obvious to *me*, that on this little blue planet, third from the sun, we all grew up together. I feel no need to seek a reason 'why', by means of an omnipotent and capricious overlord.
It's enough to know that I live on this amazing globe, and that working in harmony with Mother Earth (for lack of a better term) and all other species, would make a better future for humanity.xx :sunglasses:

LisaRose - I concur!
It would be awesome to know all the lies told by the (white) CEOs of the Fortune 500 list.
Or even the "biggest" lies ........
Lies and deceit are admired in Corporate America -- that is how one gets ahead.
This woman's problem? SHE GOT CAUGHT. -

Why are Battle Against Faith
by Jonathan Drake inif any are willing, share your fact based reasons for viewing faith as dangerous.
viewing faith as dangerous is the reason for almost all of my posts recently.
what seems constant is that theists are too focused on there own little world to realize how and why faith is so damaging to society.
-
talesin
Ah, I am reminded of one of my 'lessons learned in therapy'. This is not a specific example of how faith can be dangerous, more than a generalization that makes a lot of sense.
When a person has a strong belief in a faith, it excludes the possibilities. In other words, faith in one concept precludes the supposition that the possibilities are ENDLESS!
So, I choose my beliefs carefully ... they are few and far between.

Being shunned only increases my certainty that the WBT$ is a cult
by punkofnice inwell, i don't wanna rant too much but sometimes things cut you don't they.. a family member had a get together for the family, jw and non jw and of course i wasn't invited being da'd.. i understand why they couldn't invite me but it just made me think.
in normal society this wouldn't happen.
i'd have been there.. the shunning is so unnatural and damaging.

I agree with the premise of the OP.
The ONLY reason shunning works with some individuals who are aware of TTATT, is the emotional blackmail. The pain of losing all your family, is very real. In my case, the shunning only made me more disgusted with the cult, and my family members who shun me. Same as you.
And the pain is there. Some folks on the forum have said they moved on, and very happy with no family. That is hard to wrap my head around (though I believe those individuals - key word "INDIVIDUALS" - their feelings are just as valid as mine), because the loss of my family, and the ability to visit what I call "down home" (the family home in the country), still hurts.
I'm glad to see you posting, and venting and helping others! It's good to see you're still in fighting form, and makes me feel very "blue" ,,,,,, you know, my fav. colour is indigo! Keep on keepin' on, bro!

A Hummingbird in My House
by Oubliette inwe just had a hummingbird in our house!
it flew in through an open door.
i had been cleaning my back patio and left the screen open for a few moments when i was putting stuff away.

What an awesome thing, to help that tiny, beautiful treasure! And hold it in your hands. :))
Birds will 'freeze' when they are panicked, and appear dead. Its talons were probably hanging onto that screen in a death grip - good job!
I have some feathered friends that I hand feed every day, they are delightful!
xx
VI - right! I've had to help one tenant who kept having a bird get into his basement apt. this winter (seeking warmth - we had a harsh winter). They will fly to the light, so if you make the room as dark as possible, with only the window or door open for light, they will follow that light to freedom. xx
