i'm reeeally impressed and glad to be here.. my question is at the end of this.
What I really meant is that they (JWS) have a different type of spirituality - they virtually have none. They are more like drones, than passionate adherents.
It's hard to put into words. But I would agree that you are 'smitten', and nothing wrong with that. Eyes wide open, and watch out for the love bombing; ie, don't let it fool you.

half of our congregation goes there to work out because of the good pool facilities and prices, and the other half think that it's wrong due to it's old charter.
but no one is enforcing the wrong or right of it.
i'd be interested in knowing how this is being applied worldwide.

just get the day pass once a year to take my girls to "halloween horror night" at a local amusement park. Bus ride, dinner and drinks. That shouldn't stumble anyone, should it?

it was always boring, and i was afraid that i was gonna get attacked by a dog.
i actually almost got attacked by a rottweiler once.
i didnt get paid for it, nobody listened to us, i actually had guys make passes at me while i was out doing street corner, i was always afraid i would get grouped and raped.
Yes to all you said. I hated it for all those reasons

Thanks, TGND. I would guess that, as it does with many things, enforcement varies from region to region.

I know that my parents were disapproving of my Y membership, but that was 4 or 5 years ago. As far as they were concerned, membership was still verboten.
I never saw any JWS at the Y where I work out for many years - it's the only one in town (closed last year, and building a new one).
so i'm loving the fact that my little one gets to be a "normal" child and take part in everything at school.
however i still have that stupid niggling in the back of my head that she shouldn't be doing it and it's wrong etc.
at the moment she is rehearsing for the nativity play and keeps singing the songs at home (she is going to be an angel!
timeheals, it's hard when your parents are strong in the religion. When you decide you no longer need their approval, you will feel so free. Accepting and grieving that, may take some time. If their love is, indeed, conditional, well, for me, that was a big blow. Once I accepted that and grieved the loss of that which I never had, I was able to be my own person, with no shame, no regrets.

Historically, the Jehovah's Witness rhetoric is overblown.

Yes, it sounds like a set-up.
I will say this. You said, "looks like I've met my spiritual match". Let's examine that.
You are a Christian person, and most likely take your guidance from the Scriptures. Your spirituality involves a close and personal relationship with your Lord. You believe in doing good deeds, and living a Christian lifestyle.
On the surface the JWS appear to be similar. Once you scratch the surface of that carefully-molded (by years of indoctrination) veneer, though, you will find your beliefs have little in common with the JWS.
I encourage you to do some reading on the forum, of other people's stories on this topic. And keep up the dialogue. One thing you will get here, is support.
That's my 'take' on it. I've been out of the cult for decades, and have seen both sides of the coin. The JW side is quite tarnished.

Edit: Just read your comment, OneEyedJoe, and yes, I hear you. On the other hand, this is a perfect opportunity to suck someone into their vortex (next step: love-bombing!), that I have to wonder. Did she tell the elders about him, looking for guidance, or out of guilt? Hmmm.
i am intrigued to know if there is truly any evidence of financial irregularities in the jehovah's witness organisation or if any one or group are raking off funds or benefitting financially...?.
whilst i disagree wholeheartedly with most of their teachings and practices, dogmatism, legalism and superiority complex, i don't honestly think there's anyone making millions at the top.
yes you could say that the gb are comfortably off, don't have to pay bills etc but they do actually get up in the morning and 'work', they aren't going off in private jets to tropical islands or driving bentleys.
Thanks, JeffT. That's surprising. Not even their audited financial statements are to be made public. That seems a bit off, as the public is paying for their services (through taxes). For sure the religious lobby has a lot of power, and that will be hard to change.
