so, here's some news from my country.
there was this 20 year old jw girl who was a rookie driver.
she was in the car with her parents and for some reason decided to cross a railroad right before a train was coming.
something isnt quite right about this---a 20 year --what legal right have the parents got to make such a decision ?
The parents are Next of Kin (NOK). In the absence of the 20YO having any legal documents stating she wanted all measures taken (including blood), or she had named someone else NOK, if she is unconscious, her NOK would automatically have the legal say-so.
:'(
Warning to all who have decided they do NOT believe in the rule against blood transfusions. Make sure your NOK is someone that will follow your wishes.

Canadian hoverboard actually works! This is paradise, told ya! :P
welcome to canada from one immigrant to another !.
calgary is welcoming it's first refugees from syria and iraq so tomorrow i'm going to take all the winter clothing that we have and donate it to a women / children's charity.
it's not much (well, actually, it's a huge pile ... everything from when we first moved over!
To let fear be my decision-maker, would be the day i would rather hide my own face in a burkha. I live in a naval seaport, 2nd only to Norfolk, VA, on the eastern seaboard. That is, for NATO fleet ops, and military personnel .. that's no secret.
But no one here is going to let the media frenzy whip us into a state of cowardice in which we refuse help to those who need it now. It's not the 1930s - the information highway demands our acknowledgement of the reality and urgency of the situation. We live beside, and work with, many people from Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Iran, and most Arab lands, and I will not see their brothers/sisters/cousins et al suffer without extending a helping hand. I for one am happy to be Canadian on this day in history.
Instead of contributing to the war machine, we are helping refugees and focussing our troops on training. So be it. Let us reclaim our Canadian values, and reject the cultural imperialism that threatens to wipe us from the world map. Vive le difference!

Good Stuff, OC!
I've been volunteering in the ESL program here for a while, too. There are many Chinese these past few years, and about 1/4 from Arab countries. Looking forward to 2016 and seeing what happens.

The Syrians I know are a lawyer, teacher, chef. They are a hard working and well-educated people. Most Arabs are at least bilingual, and often trilingual. Most often their native language/dialect, french and english. The same is true with Chinese people, most of whom have studied english for years.
Help can be needed with spoken English, French speakers may be more fluent in the spoken word.

it appears diogenesister feels a need for a proper ass-kicking.. ok, if you insist.
i'm a dub proctologist.... attempting to hijack greatteacher's thread "jw parents in severe car accident,".
diogenesister seized my observation that "bloodless surgery is the standard today, not because of the wtb&ts but because of medical progress" with he carefully-crafted argument "bull crap.".
paul knew that torah with all its rituals and sacrifices did not originate with god (jeremiah 7:22; 8:8), hence he warned christians to guard against deceptive philosophy that would take them back to torah.
(colossians 2:8 compare 2:11, 16, 17) in view of the over-all view of the bible, there is no excuse to use the word philosophy with any negative connotation.
jws built their stand on philosophy based on this wrong (negative) use of the word philosophy found in colossians 2:8.. the greek word philosophi a means love of wisdom.
OTWO - hey, that's one of the "20 Questions" in the well-known textbook. "Is there any such thing as real altruism? Or is feeling good the reward? Discuss"
And Pinku, I guess you kinda provide an example that would support the "no" part of the debate.
