Giordano, that's an excellent one, 'mindful meditation'. That's actually a very ancient Buddhist type of meditation, eyes can be open or closed. You can repeat any word, actually (mine is 'thinking'), and it also helps to focus on the breath in 3 stages, lungs, diaphragm, belly, (slowly through nostrils) and breath out (mouth). Focus on what you hear, smell, feel, etc. and whenever thoughts / mind starts racing, repeat the word. xx

Im sick of my life
by BlackWolf insorry but i really feel like i need to rant right now.
recently my dad was made an elder so my family has been doing a lot more "theocratic" activities lately.
every morning i wake up and put on my itchy dress and stupid makeup and heels and then pretend that i love what i'm doing and that everybody is my friend when in reality i feel horrible and all the other teenage girls at my hall hate me for some reason.

Ah, yes, Khan Academy, forgot about that one. You're a very resourceful girl, and don't forget it!
Cappytan - I'm going to check out that site, as I need to re-train because of disability, and learning coding would be (I think) so easy, compared to what I learned in school (which was FORTRAN and COBOL) --- I know, I'm OLD. : P
BlackWolf - art camp? That sounds great, and may I ask, what medium(media) you work with? I do some painting, and have sold quite a few (130+) sculptures. I have to say, that getting into that mental groove of creating art, is one of the best things to lift my depression, when it is bad. Keep creating.

A sincere message to those from the organisation monitoring my posts....
by stuckinarut2 inso, i know there are some from my congregation or from bethel who monitor my posts..... maybe you're looking for something to catch me out?.
just a question: rather than trying to find fault with me, have you stopped and looked into the issues or facts about the organisation that caused me to come to a place like this forum??.
facts are there for anyone to find nowadays....one just has to be willing to pull their head out of the sand.....

To the OP. You are not paranoid, and everyone posting on this forum, or anywhere online, should be aware that except for emails (which can also be hacked), your words are public.
If someone is looking to catch you up, whether it's a spouse, other family member, 'friend' or elder - they will be reading the exJW forums, reddit, etc. When a JW or JC wants to catch someone, we all know they have neither scruples nor boundaries (personal and / or legal).
Others have outed themselves by revealing too much personal information in their comments, in spite of repeated reminders by Simon to all of us, that the internet is not private.
Hope all is well. xx

Are you related to me?
by Coded Logic inthe chances that anyone on this forum is my biological brother or sister, purely from a statistical point of view, is rather low.
but how many generations back would we have to go to have a fair chance that one of my ancestors married one of your ancestors (or procreated anyway)?.
i was born in 1985. less than 20 years before my birth my two parents were being conceived by a combined 4 parents of their own.. and if we go back even further, to 40 years before my birth, then i'll find an additional 8 ancestors.. around the 60 year mark i have another 16 ancestors.

I have some, Punky, but you're DF too, so chances of either of us getting a cash injection are very slim. :D
If you're from New England or the Maritimes, way back, we are cousins, fer sure!

BlackWolf, I just had a thought - understanding that you just can't get out that much - have you heard of Coursera?
Look it up - it's a site that has many, many courses from universities all over the world. You can take them, for free. Of course, you won't get a 'credit' , BUT you can get a head-start on your higher education and learn a lot about fields you are interested in. Check it out! It can give you some hope for future endeavours, and help with the boredom. xx : ) -

Favourite Comedy Quotes
by LoveUniHateExams ini wanted to post a serious, profound quote in stillin's thread but my mind went blank and i'm pretty crap with serious quotes anyway, so i put a jokey quote from the red dwarf computer holly: .
it's better to have loved and lost than to have listened to an album by olivia newton-john.. when a bemused lister asks why, holly replies "because anything's better than listening to an album by olivia newton-john!".
this got me thinking, what are everyone's favourite comedy quotes?.

We *must* have some George Carlin, and what better than his thoughts on religion? : P
Religion has convinced people that there’s an invisible man…living in the sky, who watches everything you do every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a list of ten specific things he doesn’t want you to do. And if you do any of these things, he will send you to a special place, of burning and fire and smoke and torture and anguish for you to live forever, and suffer and burn and scream until the end of time. But he loves you. He loves you and he needs money.

Is there evidence for networks of abuse?
by slimboyfat ini tend to avoid the subject because it's too depressing, so i've probably missed lots of discussion about this issue.
but i read a comment on youtube yesterday that shocked me and made me wonder.
the person claimed that many years ago abusers in society generally identified jws as a safe haven for abusers and joined en masse order to exploit the situation.

To comment on the side-topic discussion, I believe that the questioning by Judicial Committees of girls under the age of legal consent, about sexual matters in detail, without a parent present, may be illegal.
