Is proselytizing less condescending when evolutionists do it?
by paul from cleveland inis it just me?

Some people can take a condescending tone, at times. I'll not single out Cofty, as he is not, in my opinion, the main 'offender', and there is no need to single out any individuals. I don't care for that type of talk, because I consider it to be ad hominem (though others argue that tone is not directed at the person - whatever).
I do NOT think that departing facts about science is proselytizing, and think that we could all relax a bit about the issue. Let's keep the pot-stirring to a minimum. Xtians - stop whining. Atheists - lose the 'tude. Let's all try to play nice for a while, we're a support group. Yeah, things can get heated - and then it can be water under the damn.
It's easy.. The *real* hippies know how that works; they are my tribe in RL, and taught me a lot about focussing on the important issues, and letting go of petty differences. Why would I want to mess with anyone's buzz? Especially mine. : D .

Office Jargon, drives me nuts
by punkofnice in'granular' seems to be the latest buzz word going around my office.
previously it was 'appetite'.. abstract words that appear to be designed to make the person saying it appear powerful and part of the 'team'.. as lord sugar has observed before; why not just speak english and say what you mean.. office jargon really annoys me.
i had enough loaded language and jargon in the disgusting jw cult..

Every Wednesday, I have a worker that drives me around. He is my Minder. :P
We go to Wal-Mart (I know, but it's what I have to do) for some items - one of them is an huge bag of cat food (for the birds, actually). I have to wheel down the large aisle near the back, where they are having the weekly staff meeting. Yes, in the aisle. *rolls eyes*The loaded language of the W-Mart Cult of Sam (my term) makes me cringe every time I have to drive through it. They even hold hands and shit.
ugh ..........

The deep things of Jehovah(TM) denote the 'dark side' of da troof. Once you submit to the Slave's wisdom, and immerse yourself in pursuing Noo Lite, you will know the feeling of joining the hive. No longer will you be required to think, or make those nasty "decisions" for yourself! Your rational self will live in the shadows, and only the LIGHT of JAH! (made that one up) will give you joy and peace. -

Evolution is a Fact #7 - Human Egg Yolk Gene
by cofty inexploring the human genome is like roaming around an historic town.
some places are pristine and obviously still in everyday use.
others have been unused for a while and starting to show signs of decay and if you look carefully there are relics of buildings that were abandoned long ago.. in this post we are going to look at a gene that we still carry in every cell in our body but which fell into disuse 10s of millions of years ago.. humans are placental mammals.

TheOldHippie --- BAM, just learned something new! Evolution was not Darwin's theory, it had been posited long before - again, interesting! And was the earlier researcher, also a "Darwin", related?
Reading on Lamarckism now. Tks.

Thanks, very interesting.
No, I did not, Cofty. Sadly, I know that men can get breast cancer, but wow, that's kinda incredible. You have the equipment, but it's like 'the switch is turned to off'. We all start out as female when we are zygotes (physical organs), so makes sense. (ha, now I'll have to read more about *that*). : )
Island Man, just read your comment. Thank you, great examples. I've noticed other things about foods and general health, differ between cultures (ie, Inuits eating mostly fat, no high cholesterol; my people, needing hard physical labour for optimum health).
Ah, the more I learn, the more I realize how little I know. That was the only thing about *forever* that I could wrap my head around as a child ---- imagining being a student, forever. : ) -

What is truth?
by Heisenberg inwell, i have been lurking on this site for several months and i recently decided to join as a member.
i have made several observations and would like to make a few comments.. first, i am perplexed by the attitude of many on this site that are either former or active (but apostate) jws.
they seem to have a strong hatred for the wts and also for rank and file jws.

I like what Don Henley said "In the Garden of Allah" :
"There is no truthThere are no facts
Only data we have manipulated"
It fits the WTS to a 'tee'.

Swearing on the bible
by Lost and adrift inon the subject of truth.
..... i was always under the impression that one of the reasons jws couldn't do jury duty or go to court etc was that we were not allowed to swear on the bible.
..as in i swear to tell the truth the whole truth etc etc .

In Canada, you don't have to swear on the Bible or anything. You just swear on your own good name. That is a fact - I've been a witness in criminal proceedings more than once. We are a secular country.
I'm shocked that anyone in the USA or Great Britain (even more shocking) would have been fined or jailed for such nonsense. The Searcher, in Canada, there's always been other options, your comment boggles my mind.Edit: I do remember that years ago, we were told it was wrong to swear on the Bible, but we could request a different 'swear'. Swear on the "Book"? Hell, no! I don't know if it is written down, but it was a rule.

What shocking stories did you ever hear about?
by Truthexplorer inas a pre-awakened ms, i heard of 2 stories that i found very shocking at the time.
please keep in mind, i was following wt blindly at the time and was part of what i thought was the true religion.
the first shocking story was when i attended a large meeting for elders and ministerial servants covering our circuit.

One of my best friend's fathers drove himself into the lake on his snowmobile one dark night - he headed directly for the weak spot in the ice. I am convinced it was because he was involved in ...
Pedo ring which is rumored to include murder.

Witnesses killed my friend today.
by WasOnceBlind intoday has been a horrible day.
what began as a day of joy finding out that one of my lifelong friends had her baby, turned into a nightmare when her brother called me to let me know she had passed away after birth.
i was in shock and didn't ask how.
