in summary it states that since only 11-17% of molesters are repeat offenders, witnesses guilty of abuse should be dealt with inside the congregation as long as they confess.

zeb, he's playing with the numbers. From the John Howard Society in Alberta (I looked this up earlier, before I commented, just to confirm his gross distortion of the facts). It could be 15% after only 5 years, keeping in mind that these statistics involve those who were caught and reconvicted. It naturally follows that not all are caught.

[Edit: Children don't matter to the Watchtower, and he is a zealot.]

A long term follow-up study of child molesters in Canada found that 42% were reconvicted of sexual or violent crime during the 15-30 year follow-up period.

Yes you are. The 7% figure refers to the NAS and comes from a different study.

Okayyyy..... that is no explanation, not how the bar graph reads, but I have no horse in this race.

Only 7% of members of the American National Academy of Scientists believe in god.

Your graph shows that 33% of Scientists "Who believe in God", and 7% "Don't know/Refused (VOL.)", or am I reading it wrong. (I read a lot, but don't comment - I know, hard to believe.) I'm just giving you a heads-up.

What TV shows were forbidden in your JW household?

in the u.s., three's company was not allowed.

it was explained to me that it was an immoral show because a man and women lived together and no one was married.

the sister who gave this observation was a family friend and we were newbies to the religion.. at least i somehow managed to watch the benny hill show undetected..

My parents didn't 'get' MP, so it was allowed. I may have been about 12, but I'll never forget "Oh, intercourse the penguin!" ahahaha

There is no accurate way to determine recidivism rates of pedophiles, due to the nature of the crime. A rate of 35% is low, very low. For this writer to claim 11-17% would be laughable, if the whole subject was less heinous.

The families of pedophiles would suffer, and I feel compassion for them. But child sexual abuse is considered to be 'soul murder'. To protect one pedo, could mean the ruination of many lives.

The blog author (C.J. Williams) is a POS. Oh, and check out some of the testimonials for his blog. SMDH

That's a great analogy. I always likened their structure to a plantation (owner, slave overseer, slaves), but it wouldn't fit with the abuse part. Yours is much better. xx

Ten years out.....

i'm not sure how useful this post will be, but i feel compelled to write it.

with many of my older posts, i wrote them with a younger jw version of me in mind.

with this i write it with a younger newly ex jw in mind.. ten years ago i went to my presiding overseer and told him my concerns about wt owning 'rand cam' military stocks, about unfulfilled prophecy and human error in the governing body and the theocratic consequences of such.
