Twitch, I thought of Desiderata, love, love, love it!
Read these leaves in the open air every season of every year of your life, re-examine all you have been told at school or church or in any book, dismiss whatever insults your own soul.

Reading this thread, and contemplating the topic, it seems very possible that China could be an area the JWS will focus on. There are a lot of new capitalists in China, and lots of bux.
Last year, when I did some research, I discovered the Society (TM) was encouraging travel to Israel. Through use of travel visas, JWS would spend whatever time (6 weeks? I don't know Israeli regs) doing 'undercover' preaching work. This was extremely dangerous, duh, it's ISRAEL. There was another country I read about, was it Malaysia?, where JWS were deported for being discovered doing the same activity.
KH's are in private homes. That is one way the law is subverted; ie, breaking Caesar's Laws (TM) in the name of Theocratic Warfare (TM). It could be the same in China.
It would not surprise me at all, to find out that the same kind of illegal and deceptive preaching work (and dangerous! think of what has been happening in Tibet since the Chinese takeover) is being 'encouraged'. Student visas would be a great excuse, providing 4 years of opportunity, it boggles the mind.

Here's a viable set-up for JW subversion of Chinese laws. What about TESL teachers? TESL is a 2-year certification, with only HS requirement for entry. Imagine JW families in China, sponsoring a young TESL teacher who is also JW - all undercover... running a TESL school for Chinese children of wealthier families. Works for me.

The best revenge is to live well.
Champagne for my real friends, and real pain for my sham friends.
~ Oscar Wilde
Was he bitter or not? The first quote appears to say 'no', and the second, hmmm. I enjoy and admire his duality; it is so very 'human'. There is no question that he had great wit, was a brilliant writer, and experienced much pain and persecution in his own life.

Terrorist attack in Belgium
by ILoveTTATT2 incheck the news.
there was a terrorist attack in brussells, couple of bombs detonated in the brussell airport and the metro.. 36 dead so far.. i send my sincerest condolences to the people of belgium.. the motive seems to be revenge for the capture of the last surviving member of the paris terrorist attacks..

And this is how some people repay the Belgians!?
Not 'some people' - specifically, terrorist organization that seeks to create fear and hatred world wide. And what better way to target the 'innocents'?
Hoffnung - Indeed. Addressing the issue of 'why' these young people are easy targets for recruitment, and who is behind it.

Excellent points, bohm.
There is an aspect that has never been featured in the press, which is the Saudi connection. Hell's bells, all we need to do is research back 150 years, and connect the dots. Next, look at 21st century events. Start with the 9/11 terrorists, and what nationality where they? Next, look at the history of Iraq and the West. 1960s Pakistan/Bangladesh anyone? We are woefully - perhaps willfully - ignorant. (small rant, sorry, back to the topic)

...the relief of Congregation Members
by Lostandfound injust clearing out all old stuff and came across tyhis line in my copy of the uk memorandum of constitution, passed by each uk cong in (i think) 1997).
this line bemused me as i know of no witness who ever receiver financial help from their congregation.
clause 4.2.4 read for other charitable purposes including the relief of congregation members who are in conditions of need hardship or distress.

How ironic. That is a bald-faced lie.
EG: We had a very poor family, who rented from a rich and powerful elder. They had no furnace oil and 5 kids, and asked him for help with the oil. He said 'we are here to take care of your spiritual needs, not your physical ones'.
This was something I learned decades later, from a relative and reliable source. And that particular elder was a mean and scary man, to which I can personally attest. :' (
[Edit and note: individuals do help others - I am talking about church aid, which in the above case, could have been provided - other churches would]
I'm kinda old, and 4th generation JW, and have never heard of the JWS organization ever helping any of their members by giving them help, be it clothing, cash, food, housing, you name it.

fulano, and any others in Belgium, you will be in my thoughts.
Terrorists will strike to create fear and anger. This makes less-militarized nations, a better target. No one is safe when terror tactics are being used, because death of the loving and the innocent is a good way to stir up hate.
Be safe, all.

Lost on how to respond...
by babygirl30 inso an old friend of mine from the congregation hit me up today.
the story goes like this when we were jw's:.
- this guy used to be madly in love with me but i didn't see him as anything more than a friend.

This guy has probably thought about you a lot over the past 8 years. It's clear that you were his first love. I would say be kind, be gracious, and still get your point across. You must think he's an essentially good person, or you would not have given him so many chances
'The best revenge is to live well.' Oscar Wilde said this, and he would know! It's been one of my favorite quotes for over 30 years, and words to live by.
He's the one stuck in a cult, and you are free. It sounds like he's always been kind. Take the high road. (It is also the intellectual and smart thing to do, and will show your contentment in life, and lack of need for 'Jehovah'). xx tal
