Yes, that's what I liked about being a witness, too.
Here's a copy of my list.

i love this organization.
i have been involved with the shriner's since i was a child best group of men you could ever meet in your life.
i belong to their counterpart the ladies of the oriental shrine.
The Shriner's Hospital in Montreal helps children from all across the country, and we are lucky to have it. I think the old guys in the parades, with their beautiful fez hats, are charming.
Groups like this were new to me when I left the b'Org, but I was privileged to work with an old chemist, who was a Rotarian, and he taught me a deep appreciation of community-minded organizations. The Shriners, Rotarians, Lion's Club, St. Vincent de Paul, and other groups do a lot of good deeds in the community. They pay for research and equipment that is so needed, but so overpriced (as are all things medical) that many hospitals can't afford them. They provide scholarships, and give individuals money for things like MRI when they are in crisis, run food banks and shelters; it was really amazing to me when I learned this truth.
Call it charity work, or good deeds is the term I like. It's all good. : D
Although, of course as a Canadian, I am disgusted that the government squanders our health care $$$ - if not for the Shriner's, we would not have this amazing care centre for children. (EDIT: I had been reading up on orthopedic centres in Canada for personal reasons, and that's why I learned about this - wish it was for 50+ women, ha)
Good for you, rebelfighter. Volunteering brings a special feeling, I love it, too. Keep up the good work, and enjoy! xx tal
leaving the religion can be likened to a game of poker.
many possible scenarios can be played out during the game and the potential loss or gains are many:.
you have put too many chips in, every round it just seems you will win it all in the end.
I think it's a great analogy, but then, I've been playing poker for fifty years (just realized, wow, I am OLD). As kids, we played 5 card stud and blackjack (21) using toothpicks for chips. Parents let us play 'for fun'. But I digress. Back on topic ...
The odds against the house (GB) winning in *this* game were too great, so I opted out of the hand. Know you're opponent and remember that poker is a head game. x tal
.
* and yes, the odds in 21 are poor, stick to draw and stud : P
i'd like to relate an experience i had yesterday with a couple of jw's "working" with a cart yesterday.. been coming to this site for many years and these days i don't feel i've got much to contribute ,but i was out yesterday doing some voluntary work for a friend who has gone on an overseas trip .travelling around my local seaside area doing the job at hand ,i came across a couple of jw's sitting in a shelter overlooking the beach and had their trolley propped against a large public rubbish bin ,it was actually hard to see ithe trolley from most angles - whatever happened to lifting the basket to show the light stuff ...oh well .the large carpark was pretty empty except for us ,we've had pretty wet weather here lately ,bad storms and here they were set up for a days witnessing rugged up with wind and spitting rain ,i sort of thought " well that's dedication " ....that was my first thought then i pulled myself together and then thought "if i wanted to get some time in and not have to work at it too hard this maybe the place to go if i was a jw still".. well i finished my pickup and looked over at the two and realised i'd read other's experiences about approaching the cart people and wondered if talking to them would be of any benefit as i had witnessed this area for many years and my stance against the wts for hiding molestation of children is well known ,i thought, and they avoid me like the plague.. they were'nt familiar to me so i went up to them and introduced myself and quickly let them know who i was and what i am doing now as regards jw's.
they were a married couple middle aged been in for a long time and could relate to changes in the org very well to pre 1975 when i had first contact.
they pretty much suggested i was blinded to the truth ,when challenged on the royal commission into sex abuse they pointed to a case where they believed a victim they supposedly knew of in the jws was a liar ,so that's their case for the org -unbelievable.
You're welcome. I'm gonna give it a go, thanks.
And happy for you! Freedom is sweet. : D
found this on youtube:.

You did well! I've been trying to think of a better approach, as I live downtown and there's a cart only a few blocks away, and finally, your experience is the one I want to have. As well as your outlook/attitude. It's admirable, and a fine example of an anti-witness.
To sum up I think I am pretty happy at the way I dealt with them and I felt it was on my terms and would encourage others to do the same ,not so much to say that they are wrong , but to find a common human ground to talk with them despite the way they respond ,for they are what we were and I can only wish they could find the wonderful freedom from the un-human behaviour of the GB and their power and teachings which change all the time.
Cheers!
i feel an unfamiliar restlessness in my lower body.
too long have i been confined to my sickbed; my mind and heart coax me arise and gaze upon the world outside.
it is no longer a matter of fighting long-entrenched despair.
Read it.
Closed my eyes and felt it.
Reread it.
Closed my eyes and felt the "undulating waves of luminescence" washing over me.
That was uplifting, dear CoCo. Empowering.
Merci!

myelaine - I've been looking into the vid........ seems to be the real deal, and it's been on youtube for years. Also, the "Third Eye" connection is always present.
I would like to see a 'real' journalistic investigation into this whole thing, including the Bohemian Grove (fascinating, with their huge owl statue and no females, camo cover, etc.). Of course, if there *is* a NWO, it would never be revealed. It's the perfect circle jerk - can't prove it if they control the media. But there sure has been a lot of weird shit in the entertainment industry that is in plain sight. Since I was young, was fascinated by the JFK 'conspiracy theory'. Then we had Watergate --- oops! Nixon was the fall guy. There are lots of whack-job conspiracy theories out there, but there are some things that are just .... unexplained.

Also, this:

today spiegel online & bento have an article about the anti-gay video.. spiegel is one of the biggest and most serious news media in germany.. they also report and show that youtubers cut the video and changed it in a funny way.
sofia tells her mother that the teacher said it's fine if they live each other.
then sofia's mother says: "thats wonderful.".
Yes, I noted that in your comment on another thread. In English-speaking congs., it's easy to get DF. Just ask a question!
Cultural differences, like everything else that is humanity, exist in the JW world. It's very interesting. I've not seen it, being way up here in Canada. I wonder if the Quebecois (French Canada) have different practices from the English here? They have a 'distinct and separate culture'. Hmmmm..... t
