break between the talk and the wt study on sundays.
the break was supposed to be to allow jw's time to drive their bible studys home from the talk.
For me it was books. I would sneak them home from the library in my bookbag, and read under the covers with a flashlight. hehehe Wishing I was an only child as I spend a lot of time recovering from my brother's various means of abusing me ...
The shows I missed were the teen years, weekdays. Welcome Back, Kotter, Hawaii 5-0 (Book 'em, Danno! :P (I had SUCH a crush on Jack Lord) and the Waltons were on Tuesdays and Thursdays, so I was always missing them. ALso, I only got to see the Brady Bunch one or two times. I never knew what the kids at school were laughing about when they said 'marcia marcia marcia!" :P I do now, though,. haha

Here's what I'm wondering, BA. O'Hare was 'recently expelled', and the tape recordings he was playing were of Felt's 'own voice'.
I wonder if he recorded his JC, and was playing it? Or maybe just a talk in which Felt was speaking of the Satanic "worldlies" who will all be destroyed at Harm-Aggeddon, perhaps even from a convention talk ..
Indeed, Imagine that, a JW feeling harrassed. Oh, the irony!

Oh, 3rd gen, that was the highlight of the week, and you had to miss it! Disney, Ed Sullivan and Bonanza. It was one of the few childhood 'escapes' we had from the dull and abusive routines of our lives. Be glad you are not from Canada, or you may have been forced to watch The Tommy Hunter Show every Friday night,
I've never liked TV much since I grew up, it's usually boring and a waste of time. But those Sunday night shows were the only entertainment in the regimented life I led as a child.
So, really off-topic and my apologies to the OP! I heard about people smoking during the break, but by the time I was old enough to be aware, it was verboten, and most of them were secret smokers.

(Dagney), you too? :'(
Hey, Gregor - we have this fabulous store here, Freak Lunchbox, that has all the old stuff! They have candiies from back to the 60s (sugar-filled straws, Pop-Rocks, you name it, they have it!), as well as lots of other stuff, and yes, lunch boxes from the way-back machine. I loved those wax thingys, too, and bought some a couple of years ago, just for fun. And it was! :D

hi everyone, im begining to notice patterns of mental issues in the congregations and among the witnesses as a group.
do you think this is a trend in the entire world or is it exagerated in this organization?.
.
kokyong (seriously?) ............. please, please take your meds! I have lost 3 friends to this serious and debilitating illness. Much love to you!

Enzo - The term I see most frequently used in English is MI for Mental Illness (at least, among the general public). Language can sometimes be problematic, as we are an international community. :))
Now, do you know about cognitive dissonance? A short primer can be found here: http://www.simplypsychology.org/cognitive-dissonance.html
Here's the intro, and how Festinger first got thinking about CD -- surprise, a CULT!
Cognitive dissonance refers to a situation involving conflicting attitudes, beliefs or behaviors.
This produces a feeling of discomfort leading to an alteration in one of the attitudes, beliefs or behaviors to reduce the discomfort and restore balance etc.
For example, when people smoke (behavior) and they know that smoking causes cancer (cognition).
Festinger's (1957) cognitive dissonance theory suggests that we have an inner drive to hold all our attitudes and beliefs in harmony and avoid disharmony (or dissonance).
...
Cognitive dissonance was first investigated by Leon Festinger, arising out of a participant observation study of a cult which believed that the earth was going to be destroyed by a flood, and what happened to its members — particularly the really committed ones who had given up their homes and jobs to work for the cult — when the flood did not happen.
While fringe members were more inclined to recognize that they had made fools of themselves and to "put it down to experience", committed members were more likely to re-interpret the evidence to show that they were right all along (the earth was not destroyed because of the faithfulness of the cult members).
Okay, if a cult member is experiencing cognitive dissonance, they are open to depression in a big way. Their logic is constantly at odds with their feelings. They see reality, but their religion, their very way of life, denies it. This is mental illness. This leads to depression.
On a personal anecdotal note, I can remember my mother telling me, through the 90s and early 00s, about how this sister and that one, is on Prozac or some other SSRI. She herself has been taking anti-depressants for years.
The happiest people on earth? I think not.

new hope, I too am a HUGE fan. They vie in my heart with BOA and Little Feat for the best Southern fried rock band EVER! :D I am actually old enough that I *had* the original Street Survivors album back in the day, but my ex got the collection in the amicable divorce. It was rightfully his.
As for the "Four Davids", and whether homages are accepted in music, well, hmmmm .....
John Lennon Rock'n'Roll is an homage.
Tower of Song, homage to Leonard Cohen by various artists including Billy Joel, Don Henley, The Cheiftains and other great artists/bands.
Oh yeah, and the Chieftains do an homage to Johnny Cash (he sings in their version of the Long Black Veil **ahem**)
Those are just the cassettes I own, but I'm also thinking of "Roll Over Beethoven" an homage to Beethoven that actually uses the music of his famous symphony.
Music has been my life's theme! :P
So, I've watched the youtube video vid (and how cool is THAT? Being a Lynyrd Skynyrd fan all my life, despite their tiff with the god Neil Young, and I did not know this).
The artist is perfectly honest in that is an homage (a tetraptych, with each piece done in the style of a famous painter ). It sure is accepted in the music world, as long as it's an homage, and not a rip-off of another arists's work while calling it your own (ie plagiarism or copyright infringement, or whatever the legal term is.
Manyartists are multi-talented, and able to cross over to other right-brain fields of endeavour with the greatest of ease.

(Magwitch) I am so proud of us! We made it through, and still sane. xo
(3rdGen) I KNOW, treats! Imagine that .... wow. Yeah, some days I feel like saying "incubator", but she's outta my life now and I mainly feel pity. Your anger is much appreciated - that little kid inside of me is smiling and feeling protected. xo
