Don't you just love a great quote?
by stillin ini have seen a few here on this forum.
i just came across on in a book i'm reading that i thought i would share with you, appropriate to the forum.. "men think in herds; it will be seen that they go mad in herds, while they only recover their senses slowly, and one by one".
charles mackay in extraordinary popular delusions and the madness of crowds (1841).

How do Americans feel about Canadians and Britons interjecting their opinions onto hot localized political topics: gun laws, abortion, ect?
by adjusted knowledge inin addition to the above question, why do citizens of the two above mentioned countries, or other countries, feel the necessity to tell americans how they should interpret the american constitution for localized issues?.
i fairly much have an idea what the general population in the usa feels in regards to the first question.
this could be one of the possible reasons cnn piers morgan poor ratings and eventual firing.

To answer the OP "Who cares?" :P
(JUST KIDDING!)
But seriously folks, if Americans want to preach that they are the bestest, and they are running the world ,,,,,,,, well, if you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen!
xoxo
I rarely give any opinions about that particular subject in this forum, I mean, it's the INTERNET, why bother? It's not like we are a close, intimate group, and political discussions can be civil. Flame wars are so *yawn* .........Do I care about America's actions on the world scene? Hell YAH, what YOUR country does,. affects us all.
Do I think it's my business, about your President's and their pecadillos? Your scandals and race wars? Nah,,, as long as you keep it at home - HAVE AT IT!
When you start sending my fellow Canadians to Syrian torturers, yes, THEN I will speak up.Let Monsanto destroy YOUR crops, let Coca Cola give YOUR kids diabetes. Keep your cultural imperialism at home, and stop saying you're the "BEST" and the "SMARTEST".
When I think of American Exceptionalism, I think ......... Seriously? Really?
lol, and peace, love and happiness to you!

American Sniper - courage or cowardice?
by Simon inthe movie american sniper is breaking box office records and of course there is some irony that a movie about a sniper is released on martin luther king day (who was shot by one).. but of course there is a world of difference between an assassin and a military sniper ... or is there?.
some are making a big stink about it and claiming that "snipers are cowards".
it seems unfair to me.

I am speaking to the OP, not having read the subsequent pages. I downloaded this movie yesterday and it looks to be a good flick.
Snpers? Hey. are you a military family? Then, there should be no questions asked. If you are a WOO HOO AMERICA the land of the brave and home of the free, then shut your mouth. The Airborne has the best in the world, and they are trained to kill. It's a fact of your country, your identity in the world community - you are a violent people whose soldiers are trained to kill. When one of them goes awry, havoc ensues.
Live with it. Deal with it. Be as loud and proud of your killing skills with a rifle, as you are about your corporate killing skills.

Be nice to theists - they are victims of their genes
by cofty inidentical twin studies show there is a strong inheritable component to religiosity.
thomas bouchard studied identical and fraternal twins raised apart and tested them on religious attitudes.. the correlation for the former turned out to be 62% compared to just 2% for the latter.
his colleague.

There is also a strong argument for genetic psychopathy - does this mean that your need to control people's thoughts and feelings is genetic? Or do you just enjoy mocking religious people and proving you are 'right'?
Just curious.tal

East Coast Blizzard 2015
by breakfast of champions inwhere we're at, we won't get it as bad as nyc, long island or new england.
even so, my university is closed until wednesday morning, and we're expecting well over a foot of snow.. anyone else out there "hunkering down"?.

Still snowing with freezing ice pellets, and gusting to 65 mph ... I haven't listened to the TV, but that's what Environment Canada's weather service, and my own EYES tell me.
It's quite the storm out there, but 'the Perfect Storm' *rolling my eyes* ... that is exactly why I don't watch the Weather Channel or network weather. They are such drama queens. Down East, we should know how to handle a mid-winter's storm by now. I just feel bad for the lobster fishermen - this is their season, and it's a tough go.

Informative and interesting website recommendations please.
by nicolaou ini've got into a bit of a rut visiting the same half dozen or so sites most of the time.
i'd love to hear your suggestions for good sites featuring popular science (esp' astronomy and evolutionary biology), natural history, poetry and english literature.
and anything fun and surprising you might like to spring on me would be welcome too!

Coursera has free courses from universities all over the world, in every subject. It's an amazing site, and no matter what your interest, you can find something there, from the Uni of Edinburgh to Peking, Johns Hopkins to Yale. It's all free for non-credit status, although if you want credits towards a degree, you can choose to pay.
