We'd be in the third decade to my knowledge.
I started online about 1996 and what one could call an online community was already established. H2O is the best remembered part of it. So, if we said 'from before 1996 to now', that'd be just over twenty years, thus we're at least in the third decade (or just entering the third).
*sighs patiently*
I suggest you read up on the history of PDF, and then ponder how many 'decades' CofC was around in PDF form, easily available (with the cost of software, printer, and a PC!) for downloading and printing before 2000. That would be the only reason to pirate it instead of buying it, right? After all, it was not an expensive book, correct?
Computers and administration was my field from 1980 - 1992, so I can accurately say that until the mid 90s, Windows was not even the standard in all offices. Working at the telephone company in 1992, we were still using DOS as our OS (I worked with the Information Centre, producing documents and even a textbook, yes, little old me, was a techie in my previous life, so you picked the wrong person to try and make this point with). So, the "decades" argument you make is, well, let's just say it makes no sense to this poster.

'Must' is a bit much in a forum like this.
Funny, that. You've obviously not participated in any atheists vs Xtians threads. :D
That is the angry atheists' credo on this DB, and seems to be accepted in the 'belief' discussions. It's not my style, but other atheists vehemently demand that Xtians adhere to it. Of course, this thread is only a debate about legalistic and ethical matters, so I guess no one should require that links and explanations be provided.

a community that has shared illegal copies of CoC and WT copyrighted material for decades,
I had to chuckle at this. Decades? And just how many decades has there been an online exJW community, and shared what? Tens of thousands of copies, I think you said in an earlier post? LOLOLOLOLOLOL!
I can't LOL enough for that one. Please 'flesh this out' as well.
PS. Instead of downloading it, I borrowed a copy. What a novel idea.

Square peg, the world is round.
questions from readers .
say, who is that in your avatar slimboyfat?
from brother i. m. curious, usa.. that's archibald belaney aka grey owl.
Also, Canada has no affiliation with the USA. It is a completely different type of government, and not part of the Commonwealth. We have a different sensibility, and do not wish to be "americanized". Would you call someone from Argentina, American? (it's all part of 'the Americas') I think not.
Good question, Cofty.

I thought the pic looked familiar. He is a part of our history, and that is a cool connection that your family has.
PS. Please dp not call Canada "America", that is akin to calling Scotland "Britain", ie, offensive. I know that would never be your intent.
Thank you. xx

It's difficult, if not impossible to give an honest reaction to an hypothetical situation, especially one that is so far-fetched and fraught with emotional issues.
If the copyright owner *did* sell it to the Tower, then she would have already disrespected Ray's wishes, and by illegally distributing it, we would be fulfilling his dying wish. That is my answer, and it goes right along with the opinions I have already expressed.
Legally, it would be wrong. But morally, I would have no problem with it.
i have a bit of a dilemma that i would welcome advice on from the forum.. a brother in my congregation is giving evidence of having woken up - his comments and talks are usually slanted towards topics discussed here.
he is a former elder and is part of a group of other former elders and ministerial servants who i regularly overhear using terms i would expect to hear from ones knowing ttat.
he is a quite an effective teacher and will probably influence some.. however, in the past he has caused lots of problems for myself and others who i like (including another poster to this site who i have identified) and continues to be someone who i dislike intensely on a personal level.. his comments have been noticed by the body of elders and he is being watched.
I'd say 'trust your gut'.
If you really feel like reaching out, you could just say "I really enjoyed your talk" ......... if he is awake to TTATT, that should be enough to connect. On the other hand, if he is casting out lures to catch apostate thinkers, he can't fault you for the compliment.
Just a thought. Stay safe!
a catchy little number this one!
curiously, this little known christmas song by perry como was actually the theme tune to the odessa file movie back in the 70's.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5l1uddoh-yu.

rebel8 - looking for my 'first Xmas tree' story, I found an old thread I started with that very song. Love it.
ShirleyW - you're welcome, I've come to respect and like your comments, and very direct style. Remembering our first encounter ... haha! xx
