How many of you are health nuts?
by Harvard Illiterate 411 inthere was/is a sister in my old hall who was a pharmaceutical sales rep and she was a huge proponent of anything in the drug industry.
when someone had a headache, she was the first to say "take an asprin.
" now my husband and i are what you might call old hippies.

macys - I can't afford organic flesh products (meat), and other things all the time. It can be done if you buy a quarter or half carcass with a friend, direct from the producer, and i know, that's not always possible. But I buy from the farmers when in season, and do the best i can - Whole Foods is a ripoff (imho). xx -

I'm open to discussion and never closed minded. I'll take medication if I need them but that is a last resort. They have their place but not the way the industry pushes it like candy.
Since I left the JWS at a young age, I've relied on nutrition and exercise to help with my physical ailments, and, like you, take drugs only when necessary. When I was very young, I'd been given far too many scrips, and by age 20, already had stomach bleeds from NSAIDs and resistance to antibiotics. Pharma has its place, but I don't rely on popping pills to solve my problems.
Some people take issue with the term 'holistic', because it has been co-opted (mostly in the USA) by snake-oil salesmen selling their hooey. "Holistic" means treating the patient as a whole, the mind and body are one. Period.
I'm with you on the organics, too. Good for you! They taste better (for sure), and hey, if people wish to believe that ingesting pesticides and hormones via our food supply is not harmful, they can have at it. Ignorance is bliss! -

Fade Fail: Not as Easy as I'd Like
by Hadriel inthis has been tough.

because i'm so integrated into things including certain tasks which i can't say as it would be a dead giveaway i find myself constantly bombarded by things.. i'm literally a lying every day.

Not sure why I can't just keep it in and ignore it all but it drives me crazy to lie at every turn it seems.
It would make me crazy, and that's why i gave it up at age 18. All I have to do is hear that phrase "would you consider" or "have you changed your mind" and I freeze. It's a very hard row to hoe. Stay strong! xx

This thread is for proof that God exists
by juandefiero inhowever, i haven't found any evidence to support that belief.. have you?
if so please, show me the evidence that god exists, and i will believe along with you.. criteria:.
(1) you must specify which god you are talking about;.

I have nothing to prove to you, Cofty, and have no wish to engage in one of your twisted battles of semantics. You are the one who used a statistic that is almost 20 years old, and deliberately stated that I was not reading the bar graph correctly, with its coincidental "7%". You are the person whose "use of the statistics is very misleading".
No, you cannot browbeat me into submission. You, who respects some Bishop as an honest man (when every believer on this board is labelled by you as 'intellectually dishonest'). You, who claims that people are threatening him via PM, when in fact, they are not. You, who sneers at philosophy, yet yells "Socratic Method" to the rooftops. No, I shall not waste my time, because you have 'thrown down the gauntlet'. You've already lost any challenge, you're too easy.

Jehovahs Witnesses and the Curse of Music.
by donny injehovahs witnesses and the curse of music.. .
i was inspired to write this after listening to a recent podcast of the thinking atheist by seth andrews.
as many of you know, seth was a devout christian who not only loved contemporary christian music but was one of the hosts of a popular morning show on kxoj in tulsa, oklahoma in the 1990s.

Now, I don't know if it is different here in the UK-but I have been told by the elders, metal and the like IS advised against, but it is how it personally affects YOU that it the issue. If it makes you happy, and is not blatantly evil, like black metal, there is no issue-however, if it plays on your mind a lot and makes you depressed, then it is bad.
...
I also vape-I do not use nicotine anymore, and the Elders and other witnesses think they are great, and see no issue with that either-This is a part of their 'love-bombing'. Once you are baptized, and pledge to obey the Governing Body, they will have a tighter leash on you. Sure, you can listen to 'unapproved music', you can vape - these are what they call 'conscience matters'. BUT, if they disapprove (and something tells me they may), you will be considered bad association and well, let the shunning begin!

what buzz word from the jw's do you hate & why?
by Sabin inso my hubby has been on a bit of a roll about the jdubs, we were talking a lot about them & he said the buzz word he hate's the most is "worldly" why?
because he say's "with that one word they have condemned (according to their believes) a person as being worthy of nothing but death.

"Keep your eyes on the prize."
I find it particularly galling to find this is a term that the Xtian Fundies have picked up, so we hear it on TV and other places. *pukes*
Then, there's,
get-togethers
the Truth
"fleshly" sister or brother (why can't they say 'blood' like normal people?)
imperfect men
worldlings
unevenly yoked
like Unky Punky, I never heard "Mother", but it reeks
theocratic arrangement
brazen
this old system of things
Jehovah's happy people (most of whom are on anti-depressants)

I dont know how i can leave my family!
by BlackWolf inmy mom and i were talking today about how next summer i will be 18 and she said that just thinking about it might make her cry.
that made me think about how much more it would hurt her if i quit being a jw.
i really do love my parents, i know they are just being cruelly manipulated by a cult and that they really think they are doing what is best for me.

Hi black wolf. When you turn 18... Just stop attending meetings and door knocking....and wait for your parents to make the first move. Then react accordingly. What do you really think they I'll do about it....kick you out of your home?
Stan, I know it's hard to wrap your head around it, but that's exactly what may happen. :'(

Hi, BW. I had that talk with my mother, just after I turned 18. And yes, she gave me the boot for not believing. She even had me DF a few years later.
Bide your time, and you're not baptized, right? Maybe they will let you stay at home, if you keep a low profile about your issues with the religion. You're being home-schooled, if I recall? Are you getting the proper curriculum, and will you graduate? If I were you, I would focus on getting the most out of my schoolwork that I could right now, and staying underneath the radar with the religion. Try not to get mom too worked up.
Now, the possibility of being 18, and on your own. It can be done, and especially if you are healthy, and determined, you'll be okay. You also have the support of this community, which is HUGE.
Don't live in fear of what may happen. Prepare for the worst-case scenario, and hope for the best. Be realistic, and know that you have the right to your own life. The happiness of your mother is NOT your responsibility - you are your OWN PERSON, and she has no right to selfishly live her dreams through you.
I'm happy you came to the forum for support - you can do this! xx tal -
