There used to be a website where exJWS could register their name. You could look through lists alphabetically. It's how I found out my cousins had left the cult, and I got in touch with them. I've been looking for it, but that was about 10 years ago. It's harder to find people online now, than it used to be. If they have a landline, you may find them in a 411 directory - but as you said, different name ... -

Memorial mixed emotions...
by Tornintwo indoes anyone else feel 'pulled back in' at this time of year?.
i still consider myself to a believer, believe in god and jesus christ, on the whole i think he taught tolerance, love, acceptance and i think we can benefit from following his example.
i love ray franzs book in search of christian freedom.

When I decided I was no longer going to meetings, that included the Memorial.
There are no mixed emotions for me. After years of being invited, I finally told my parents that "hell will freeze over before I set foot in a KH".Why would anyone want to go to a place where they will be shunned? A place that is phony, abusive, and everything an ethical person would feel repulsed by?

Money....
by The Rebel ini believe all our worst nightmare are believing money will make our life's complete.
i am not talking about money providing life's comforts, but i am mortified that contentment and happiness always requires " more money"..ummm i need a window cleaner, a flashy car and a 50inch t.v screen to be happy.
money...well in my opinion we need money integrity to be happy, but it seems such a waste of life to search for the making of money more than ....well what i mean "hey" most of us have more money than most, and would the making or having more money really make you happier?.

zeb, you summed up my thoughts very well. It's hard to be happy when the belly is empty. Sure, happiness is still a choice, but it's easier when you're not worried about basic needs.
And someone mentioned Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs....... yes! This is all we need to be truly 'happy'.

The Modern Exodus: Perception or Reality?
by Hadriel ini'm completely new at this however just in my joining this forum and of course interacting with others i can't help but notice what appears to be a significant exodus from the organization.. for those of you that have long been in this game have you seen this before?
i'm really curious and we should refrain from the sensational, but is what we're seeing different than in years past?.
it sure seems like so so many are waking and leaving.

I've seen the 'exodus' in my family I get occasional news. The generation after me, have almost all left the cult. I just found out that my 2nd nephew and wife are DF for a couple of years (1st nephew faded years ago). My cousins kids have all left. Another local family left en masse (8 members, including 2 or 3 elders).
It seems to me, that the JWS will focus on those places where there is less internet access. Like all Western corporations, they have been mining Africa for a long time. They are losing the battle in the West, not just because of the 'net, but the secularization of our cultures has made the JWS less appealing, even to those who are needy and ready to be victimized.
The number of groups on facebook, and Reddit! wow, it's amazing and 'encouraging' (to coin a JWism) to see. xx tal
PS. Hadriel, I couldn't figure if you were the Demon from Diablo, or the Biblical ref? I knew the demon right away, so figured it was that ... now, not so sure. :P

I like the fact that XJW's are passionate about politics
by minimus inthe fact is we could never talk about politics or of use toward political issues as witnesses now we can and we can disagree without being disagreeable .

Me, too! Remember the 2004 election? Wow, the flame wars were fun - it's American politics, so entertaining! -

Blood Transfusion and Eating
by dugout ini get highly irritated when this subject comes up.
this idiot gave a talk in my hall recently and said that transfusion of blood and eating blood was the same thing.
my wife accepts this reasoning.

OC, I thought that was a 'Canadian" brand. I think Schneider's as well, but that could just be Down East. You know, the 'right' coast. ;)
And yes, they were more expensive (being kosher, of course)

When I was a kid, we were not allowed to eat processed meat. Bologna and hot dogs were seen as the devil's food.
OC, remember "It's a Shopsy!"? I was always happy to see that hot dog sign at the movie theatre, because they were JW-style Kosher. And yes, if they truly followed the OT blood laws, they would either buy Kosher or Halal.

The people are mobilizing Mr Drumpf
by Simon inprotesters shut down a trump rally.
massive numbers of people are out in chicago and have shut his event down.
there were scuffles inside the event.. despite his lame attempt to pretend the violence he instigates is nothing to do with him it's clear that it is as the cnn quotes during the last event showed only too well.. this doesn't happen at anyone else's events - candidates have even given up the stage to protesters, not called for them to be beaten and punched.. trump is an ugly person and this is just a small taste of what a future under his rule would be like.. shame on the gop for not kicking his ass out.

Thanks, Gio. I thought a bit of history might flesh out the perceptions of The Donald. Much appreciated.
