What is your opinion of the news media?
by minimus into me they have an agenda and they really don't care about professional journalism.
most are untrustworthy and that's a shame.

Bloodless surgery methods add an element of risk that is not there in conventional methods of surgery.
OC, this is key.
Thank you for informing. The exJW community needs this, and you fill this need here on JWN.
Bless you, my sister! (If you don't mind me calling you sister, in a very real-world way.)xx tal

If the problem was 'mild', I'd consider bloodless surgery - if a doctor recommended it or told me there wouldn't be serious consequences.
There is no blood given if it's not necessary. "Bloodless surgery" is a misnomer. All surgery is bloodless, unless a blood transfusion is necessary.
The only "bloodless surgery" that is special, is for the Jehovah's Witnesses. Do you not remember the case, just last year, of the child who was brought to the USA from Australia? Bloodless surgery, indeed. She is dead.

I was in a life-threatening situation, and was hemorrhaging for hours. The doctors gave me clotting meds via IV, and the last resort was a blood transfusion. This is how blood transfusions are approached in Canadian medicine. In the 60s, and maybe the 70s, blood transfusions were routinely given, as a part of surgery. That practice stopped long ago. After AIDS came on the scene, in the mid-1980s, blood transfusions were viewed completely differently by the medical profession. Of course, I would discuss any procedure with my doctor beforehand, but I would assume that generally, a blood transfusion would not be given unless it is medically necessary.
Edited to say: I did not have a transfusion. They kept me going until a surgery could be scheduled, and no blood required. It's a priority for medical professionals, to avoid giving a transfusion. For crying out loud, that's why we have blood drives. There are shortages for people who *need* blood.

I ran out in front of a car, and woke up in the hospital a couple of days later. Except for a bit of arthritis in my hip, no major lifetime repercussions.
Sure hope you're okay, buddy! Day-yum, you met a crazy - glad she didn't have a gun. Get well soon. xx

I would like to rant about how I get really upset when I get some weak invitation back to the cult.
by schnell inmy mother wanted me to know that the co gave a talk that kinda-sorta reprimanded an elder in her hall.
he is not the reason i left at all, and this does not address anything to do with me or our family.. my mother-in-law sent me texts which i ignored and now she has sent a picture to my wife on facebook just for me, and it's a prodigal son meme that says, "you see the signs, come back it's not too late".. yeah, it's not too late to accept a global flood in 2370 bce, or that man was created in 4026 bce from a golem spell, or that an us-and-them cult mentality is at all healthy or loving, or that religion is going to be banned by the un, or that i should expect anyone else at the door to accept these stupid ideas in the information age.. what am i supposed to say?
i usually just ignore them, but before i do that, i see that shit and i storm into this weird internalized rage where i start writing a response and deleting it.

Childless elders need to piss off
by Steel inanyone else think it's wrong to ask a women with small children to volunteer there time, ask if they like to come to a potential study etc etc?.
my wife just spent an entire day helping with a kingdom hall reno while i babysat.
i latter stepped out and saw half the elders having coffee because they had so many people show up, they were tripping over each other.. i also have no idea what tangible skill my wife offered or why it is important she needs to be there.. i just wish these men would man up and be men, instead of just wasting everyone's time on purpose.

I hate to quote Nancy Reagan, but "Just say NO." Once you practice it a few times, it's easy. "NO" is a complete sentence!
And, I have to add that, spending time taking care of your own children is NOT babysitting. You are learning TTATT, and that is great. Freedom! It also means freedom and EQUALITY. Your wife is not the caretaker of your family - you are a team. Babysitting? Really? <=== that is reality in the RW. Don't worry - it's more fun than the JW way, and the kids - they will give you so many laughs, and your relationship with wife is so much better when you are equals. x

damn, fsp. I don't come on here much; it's nice to cross paths. I am reminded of a time of interesting discussions with yourself and another Canadian, what was his NAME, it's on the tip of my tongue? His avatar was Paul Newman, and he was also a laid-back thinker (had the Newman 'tude, so the photo was apt, as is yours. 'the thinker', is what runs through my brain when I see your avatar).
Take care, man. ; )

The Fundamental difference between Islam and Christianity
by ILoveTTATT2 inever since i came out of the witnesses, i've become very political.. i've heard lots of arguments back and forth for many things.. in the u.s. there is the argument that it is "racist" to want to deny entry to muslims.
while there is freedom of religion, there is also the very valid concern of maintaining democracy and a justice system that is based on modern values.we as exjw's constantly quote the pew center for statistics on jw's such as: they are last place in the us for members of a religion that go to university, and second-last for poverty levels of members of a religion.
we accept those statistics and mention them as proof of how damaging the jw's are.now, let's use the same center for some very scary statistics on islam:http://www.pewresearch.org/fact-tank/2016/07/22/muslims-and-islam-key-findings-in-the-u-s-and-around-the-world/.

I don't believe in 'freedom of religion', in the American way. The recent arrest of JWS in the middle east as a form of religious suppression does not bother me.
How many times have people on this forum wished that they could SUE the Watchtower for their violation of human rights? Well, if religion violates human rights, then it should be outlawed. Sue for money, put them in jail; comme ci, comme ca ... ppffttt!
I have always taken a 'soft stance' with Xtians on this forum, and supported their right to be heard. I still support that. But if countries (even Russia or China or Afghanistan or any place) want to ban religion, or JW, or any 'belief', I am all for it! Let the revolution begin! Down with G-d!
(No disrespect meant to any deists. If you wish to believe in fairy tales, so be it.) -

Smiddy, that is like Nova Scotia, my home. They say "if you don't like the weather, wait 15 minutes".
I hope we don't have the bad fires in AU like a few years ago, and to you as well, and all reading, be safe!
xx talPS. We are getting a blizzard tomorrow - it's opposite-land! xx
