There is an elder in a congregation in Hanover, PA that has business cards listing his name and the title "Elder" in big bold letters. He hands these out quite frequently, I guess it makes him feel special. Wonder how special it felt when both of his daughters were disfellowshipped for riding the balogney pony?

Doing the wave
by benext inon my way home last night, just as i'd crossed the street and was on final approach here comes an elder and his son on the way to the meeting.
as he spots me he gives me the wave, arm fully extended and moved left to right, back and forth, to and fro.
i reciprocate with the same wave.. he looked like he wanted to come across the street and talk but didn't.

I usually wave back, it involves raising my right hand and extending the 3rd digit.

Do You Enjoy Being "Part of the World"???
by minimus insince before a witness gets baptized, they are told to "be no part of this world".
that is beaten into everyone's head.
now that you're not a jw or are on the way out, how does being part of the "world" feel?

I'm still trying to figure out how I'm going to be so sad in the world and feel an empty void in my life, that was what I was always taught by my folks and elders. Personally, I love it, and wouldnt trade it , well, for the world (no pun intended).

Did anyone else want to puke at assemblies?
by RoadDoctor inis it me or do others get absolutely sickened by the disgusting interviews given during circuit and district assemblies?
i mean, come on, how much more rehearsed are these little skits?
i always hated hearing everyone's "out of this world" field service experiences.

Is it me or do others get absolutely sickened by the disgusting interviews given during circuit and district assemblies? I mean, come on, how much more rehearsed are these little skits? I always hated hearing everyone's "out of this world" field service experiences. What made me really laugh was how perfect some of these Christian kids were, how they preached to their teachers and converted classmates. I always wondered if they did this preaching and converting when they were outside the school's parking lot drinking alcohol with the convertees? It also seemed to me that all of these experiences seemed to run together and basically sounded the same for all the years I was a member.
They make me sick!!!!! But my, what fun it is to laugh at them now

Fun JW Tricks
by professor inin the late 1970's john denver at one point in his concerts would ask any jehovah's witness in the crowd to please stand up.
once they were standing he would play the national anthem!
hillarious.. here's a trick you can try.

I remember we could not listen to any John Denver material as he was an apostate and the story told to us was that his father was a JW. This is why he hated the witnesses so much. GOD BLESS JOHN DENVER!
As far as showing up for field service in another congregation, that might be tough to do. They usually dont let complete strangers just join them unless accompanied by someone who already knew them from that congregation....nonetheless, a great trick which sounds like fun!
I'm thinking more along the lines of a Jerry Springer show stunt. I want to come in wearing nothing but a trenchcoat, run up on stage, flash and out the fire exit.

Alcohol and the Witness
by Maverick inwhen i first was studying with the duds, one of the things i found interesting is that duds are ok with drinking alcohol, "in moderation".
i never was a big drinker, usually one drink if i'm out and will have to drive and no more than three in any 24 hour period, even if i'm staying home.. i wonder if the fact the "the judge" was a rumpot contributed to the soft attitude on alcohol?
most of the brothers i knew were big drinkers and many of the older elders drank more with dinner that i drink in a weekend.

They always told us alcohol in moderation. There was so much drinking, it was the first question most elders asked when I or my friends would have a party "where's the beer"... I bought a keg of Miller Lite, and I couldnt believe my ears when the one elder said "what did you buy this shit for?"
Yes, the JW's love to drink. Just don't invite someone who has a bunch of Bethel friends down for the weekend. You could be looking at quite an expensive drunkfest when they start hitting the tap.

We'll praise them for a job well done, but it's a job that YOU can't do.
by Ariell indid it ever bother you when the watchtower published magazines praising doctors, nurses, policeman, etc., but yet discouraged witnesses from having these jobs either because they took up too much time or because they involved violence.
i'm talking front page-cover stories here.
of course they did it to draw outsiders in, but the hypocrisy of these people, it baffles me sometimes.

They told me being a firefighter was quite honorable, especially volunteering. However I should not do this because of the heavy worldy association involved. The firefighters do excellent work, they say, however they are really bad people. All in the same breath. Well, last time I checked, I dont know of any workplace that doesnt have worldly association unless it is owned by JW's and they only hire from within the ranks. (That is just a bad of place to work). So its ok for someone else to do that kind of work, but they are really still bad people.

Good luck in what you do. You will find it to be one of the best decisions you have ever made in your life. Just be careful though, if you DA, they can still harass you into "re-converting". My choice was to go a step further and get DF'd just so I knew they would leave me the hell alone.
The loss of immediate family members is a tough thing to go through. I feel for you, and hope you can find true friends and other family non-believers to bond with. These will prove to be invaluable to you for the rest of your life. It is a terrible thing to go through, it took me over a year before I could come to terms with not having a family to go to anymore. But I have true friends who have and always will be there for me and some other family members who also have quit the borg, and we share a special closeness now. You will find happiness in this decision, no matter how trying it may be now.

A picture is really worth a thousand words
by observador inmany people here have described how interesting this summer's conventions were.
well, i got this picture - which requires no explanation - from a faithful to the letter jdub but apparently with a good sense of humor.
now, if this picture made its way to an watchtower magazine, what would the caption be?

Well if it was at any assemblies that I attended..... then the youths are out walking around the corridors or outside playin mac daddy. Or they are sitting at the very top out of view of the parents.
