That is shameful. It is utterly twisted to somehow lose the self respect a normal person has when they are gainfully employed. We were meant to be productive people. I have a In-Law Elder with Kids, who quit working, sold his house and his whole family lives in Mommies basement so he can Pioneer and his wife homeschools the kids. He is the most Haughty, Arrogant dislikeable person I know.
I view him as an utter loser,,,,
i'm an active witness from brazil (who would leave if it weren't for my family/friends inside) and always dreamed about practicing skydiving.
but as radical sports are a no-no for witnesses... i wonder if any elder or ex-elder on this forum knows if an active jw, practices skydiving/parachuting once and/or regularly, can he or she be disfellowship on that basis?
i'm considering secretly jumping but afraid if someone finds out.

Brinjen, I agree, the employment/recruiting/hiring process is totally different today. The Genxer and Geny er is connected 24/7 via social media, texting ect,,, that is how reach candidates today, social media is huge. My only point was comparing todays "low income" household with what it was like in the 30's. It was about simple survial then, not so much today it would seem.

I think Parachuting without a chute would be a DF offense, otherwise couldnt it be considered practising for a publisher who might get dropped into deep isolated territory to spread the News of Gods impending Kingdom!!!

I second that motion jgnat. Witnesses are willfully giving up the "real life" for a make believe life that does not exist. It is profoundly sad to me to see parents and family squander what I know is the only real existence they will ever know. I like your picture by the way,,,,
despite the painfull loss of two close friendships, i have to issue the report that life is in fact stunningly wonderful.. business is outstanding and exciting, my financial situation is beyond my wildest silly dreams.
i have somehow managed to miraculously overcome the horrific accident last year and have successfully resumed two passions i thought i had lost forever.
riding my harley (i just added a new one to the collection!
Feeling ugh, ya I have those day too lol! I tried to take my dogs out for a walk this morning in the 2 inches of sloppy snow. Got a half block and they both said, what the hell are you thinking - Im not walking in this crap!

Well the current state of affairs in the United States with the explosion of benefits for food stamps, unemployment benefits and disability, the common person is losing the normal incentive to work. It seems easier to stick your hand out and have "Uncle Sam" take care of you. Oh and Obesity is rampant in this country too by the way.
In another age, when during the "depression", people were trying to survive, just trying not to starve. The best incentive to work is being hungry. How many households that are getting welfare in this country have computers, internet, cell phones cable tv,,,,, Not really starving are they?

my son grew up with one of the young brothers in the kingdom and after graduation both him and my son left the kh.
the young man who left the hall fell into the wrong crowd and i mean a really dangerous crowd and as a result of him getting involved in illegal activity he was murdered.
i really feel for this young man, because he was a decent kid.
Sorry about that time. That is infuriating. I had a lifelong Witness relative that supposedly commited suicide. The "service" they performed was a disgrace and most of the ex-witnesses who were family were similarly shocked and outraged that barely mentioned her name, didnt talk about who she was and what she accomplished her whole life,,,,,,, Its like all the JW's just wanted to pretend she wasnt ever alive and went on about the business of eating like it was a picnic.
The whole thing is just revolting,,,,,,,
