Dawkins retweeted @ALFLiberty's tweet.
If you want to see Dawkins retweet you'll have to go on Twitter and check out his tweets on May 26 (it should be 7 from the bottom for that day).

Does What We Say Here Or In Person Really Help JWs To Get Out Of The Religion?
by minimus inif we are in the congregation, do you think our comments or questions actually reach elders or others in the congregation?
do our comments on this board affect witnesses to the point of questioning their faith?

I hope so, although it's hard for me to say as a never-in. However I'd have thought that at the least sites like this must persuade some potential recruits not to join. People are so used to doing Google searches now before committing to something, that some must come across sites like this and be put off joining as a result.
It must be a real problem for the WT when recruiting. Do they try to persuade potential recruits not to look at the internet? It would be like a hotel trying to get you to book a holiday with them but saying whatever you do, don't look at Trip Adviser!

by Simon ini love science and technology and we are living in a golden age right now.
the world has changed in so many incredible ways just in the time i've been alive.. my first car was a vauxhall viva.
it was brilliant because it was my first car and represented freedom.

Well some of us spend a fair bit of time in aeroplanes on auto-pilot and there are rail systems such as the Docklands Light Railway in London without drivers. However I can see that there are a lot more variables to control with road traffic than highly regulated air space or rail systems.
It seems to me that the question to ask is not whether there could be any accidents with self-driving cars but rather whether there would be fewer accidents than with manual systems.

It's a he according to this article (which includes a reference to Jesus becoming ruler of God's Kingdom in 1914 - it looks particularly mad when stated as plainly as it is here).

If I were able to ask Mr Lett questions then at the very least I would want to know:
- How big is the shortfall and why has it come about now?
- Is this a one-off because of major expenses at Warwick or will the situation persist without increased contributions - in other words are you asking me to increase my level of donations permanently or is this a one-off special request?
- What percentage increase in donations are you looking for?
- Are you including investment income or just comparing donations with expenses?
However, regardless of the above, unless the GB is indulging in a staggeringly barefaced lie then it seems reasonable to conclude that the WT is under some degree of financial strain, even if its magnitude and duration are unknown.
Lett said that the proceeds of a sale of a significant Brooklyn property only covers a few weeks expenditure. If we say that 'significant' is $100m and a 'few' is 5 weeks, then that implies about $1bn of expenditure a year. I have no idea what typical contributions are (I see a separate thread has started on that) but with 8 million members then every man, woman and child would need to contribute $125 per annum on average to match that expenditure. Therefore a family of two adults and two children would need to contribute $500 per annum on average, just over $40 per month. Of course it would have to be higher than that in the richer countries as that may be an unrealistic level for those in poorer countries. If people are already giving at this level I can't imagine they'll be too keen to increase it.

Who REALLY believed in the idea of living forever on earth??

I was never a Witness, but the faith I grew up in (Catholicism) also had the living forever carrot. I guess I must have believed the doctrine as a child because I recall being worried that it might be a tad boring after a while (after say the first 500 million years or so). -

"Neither can salt water produce fresh water." - James 3:12, RNWT
by 88JM ini noticed this verse the other night and thought it looked so obviously ridiculously provably untrue that there must be something more to it.
surely even a bible writer must understand that desalination isn't witchcraft?.
new american standard bible:"nor can salt water produce fresh.".

I think in the Koran they go further and say that salt water and fresh water will not mix, i.e. they will remain distinct. Complete nonsense of course and very easily disproved.
