when i was at bethel during the 80's japan was the darling of the society, gb lyord barry, used to brag about their zeal all the time and dog us in the west-.

they set and all time record of all 100-200 consective peaks in pub and growth, then all of a sudden the bottom fell out, what do you think happend.

i do recall barry mentioning that their culture is one that makes them good follers.

Trying to get people to "support" pioneers!

this was one topic that used to make me furious!

here the bible makes it perfectly clear that back then they supported their own ministry by working.

there is also the scripture about "counting the cost" implying that one should not undertake any project without making an assessment as to whether or not they could do it.

I remember a pioneer sister, who was given EVERYTHING, by the congregation. Her parents should have been supporting her to pioneer, but they didnt (other than let her live with them). People always bought her meals, not only during breaks out on service, but whenever there was a get together she never, ever paid. Someone always filled her car up with gas. People bought new clothes for her, and gave them to her. People gave her cash for spending money. bought her bookpbags, purses, make up, name it, she was showered with gifts, gifts, and more gifts.

I was around her alot when this happened, and the part I didnt like was, she thoroughly expected it from people. She could have had a part time job, to support her pioneering, but she didnt, because she didnt have to.

I understand about those who have to support their families while pioneering, of course they should take the handouts without feeling bad, thats an ok thing. But this girl totally, 100%, took advantage.

Life-threatening blind fanaticism

in the aftermath of yesterday's london tragedy, the radio stations were rife with those calling in and talking about some religious fanatics on the other side of the world.

the radio commentator himself talked about how barber shops in baghdad were being bombed and barbers were having their lives threatened (or taken) because of one religion's decrees that hair should not be cut.

the commentary kept asking how do we negotiate with people like this?.

Working for the State or Government

one of the main reasons dub's don't get involved with the military is that they do not want to "support" the government to which it serves.

I remember when I graduated high school, was still in the borg. We already seemed to have less choices, as to what to do with ourselves, and to top it off, we were not allowed to apply for work, at this cities biggest employer (something like 7000 employees). It is a government contractor that makes defense missiles, stuff like that. Gave us a whole lot less choices at the time. Dont know if there has been "new light" (hate that term) on this or not.
