what is the stupidest thing a jw ever told you?

we all know that they say a lot of stupid things, but what really topped the cake?.

for me, it was an elder telling me i was progressing really well when my meeting attendance was down and my field service hours were slipping.

When the boys came for a visit I mentioned how new truths kept cancelling out old truths and how could you fault someone for leaving an Organization which was teaching what turned out later to be false interpretations of the scriptures saying they had understanding from God. In essence they were following the bibles command to remain free from false religion and not to even touch the unclean thing.

A pillar in the congregation (elder) one whom I had actually respected before this told me that Jah may have used lies and deception to weed out ones serving for the wrong reasons. I laughed and said you mean he used lies to find and attract people who wanted truth but rejected the people who would not believe a lie. Sounds more like Satan to me!

Preaching work ? could it ever be completed ?

the saying goes "once the good news of the kingdom has been preached in all the inhabited earth, then the end will come.

now, only 6,000,000 witnesses, one planet of 6,000,000,000 people, (the jw's amount to 0.1% of the earth's population, man sure annoying for only 0.1%) i don't see, how it would be possible to reach every person or land.

so many new being born in the world, new subdivisions going up in every city across the planet, conceivably the cycle will never end, therefore the "good news" will never reach everyone.. and, a few threads of late regading going out in service, most people hate it, do as little as possible, count excess hours (donuts, driving time, etc.).

Paul said it was complete in his day...and it certainly had not covered even a majority of the earth. He didn't even bother going to territories where the message had already been spread because the end was so near. In South America they had to wait for the Spanish to bring them the Christian teachings along with death and disease. I'm not sure about the North American Indians ...the Mormons believe Jesus came here don't they or was it Joseph Smith...somebody fill me in on that one.

But it will be complete when the GB says it is and that's all most dubs care to know......

Brummie your story cracked me up...man we have all been there. I dated a girl with braces we banged chops and and I split my lip...she dumped me the next day!

Nilfun is that from playboy/playgirl forum...You don't hear hitherto very often today and as far as touching lonely places I guess for some those lonely places are not so lonely..............

in that post i said i'd like to be reinstated but felt it likely wouldn't happen because the shunning was too much for me.

I'm new to the forum and also new to sharing my inner thoughts with anyone like I do on this forum..What Herk said concerning fear of man is what holds me back from discussing my inner thoughts not fear of God and I'm sure its what will forever hold you back from ever being as open and honest to your brothers and sisters as you are to this forum. I had told you previously not to frequent this site but you have so much emotion in your comments and your also very quick to make a sharp retort that girl I think you'll need more of an outlet than commenting at the weekly meetings. You really must have had to control yourself in those elders meetings.

There have been alot of sharp words or comments on this thread but its because its a subject that still holds all of us to some small degree...if it didn't we would not be on this forum.

My last words for you Northern Girl ...unless you decide to return now and then are this. Follow the example Jesus and his disciples layed out in the scriptures, when it comes to matters of how you should treat ones no matter what the Org says. Even when confronted with a women who had committed adultary he was kind and freely forgave. When you run into some one who has been df'd or da'd will you treat them as you would have wanted to be treated..with love.

Jesus wanted mercy not sacrafice as littletoe often points out in his posts...that to me was a revelation of major proportion considering I don't think we emphasized that very much as JW's.

If you want to be a good JW then so be it, but above all else be a good person.

Roots

in speaking with some people the other day i realized i have no roots....no long term frienships....no family connections.

i went to a party and almost all of the people there knew each other from high school or college or family friends.

i felt so out of place.

I've never had problems making friends but as a dub I've only allowed them to be causal friends....No movies together or anything like that. I can't ever remember hearing any of my extended JW family mention even inviting a non-witness to their homes for meal. Half of my siblings are JW's the others not so this means as a family we never got together. I compare growing up as a dub now to thinking everyone you meet outside of the org could possibly give you SARS so you have little or no contact and you steralize your thoughts all the time to remain clean.

Sad when there are so many wonderful people with so much to offer in the name of freindship...

You don't look like someone who have difficulty making freinds with the opposite sex

Sounds like there are many on the forum who care for you, maybe thats the start............

The right age to get baptized?

i've always wondered why it was ok for jesus to wait until he was 29 to get baptized in symbol of his dedication while jw's are pressured at such an early age.

do you suppose joseph was always on his case...jesus get up its time to go to the temple.....why didn't you comment today?.......when are you going stop hanging out in gallilee with all your friends and get baptized?.

is this just another control aspect of the wtbts, handcuff you to the org while your young and make it almost impossible to leave later when you mature?

Hi KGB ..How can a seven year old be able to make a decision which of that nature...he or she is still having trouble deciding wether to watch Rescue rangers or the Power rangers on Saturday morning.

If Christ did truly set the pattern for all mankind and he was able to dumfound the leaders of his day at 12 yrs of age and also say to his parents I was at the house of my Father I could possible understand if he were baptized at 12 but he wasn't.

How could a child today or even a young adult be in a better position to get baptized younger than him. And if you say he waited untill he was 29 to fulfill a date prophecy than its means he was serving for a date not for the right purpose.

As you can see scholar has indepth knowledge on this subject and you should discard all of your research and listen to him. Over and over again I've seen how he is able to bring all the relevent data into various discussions to back up the chronology of the WT society, he has certainly made a believer out of me........

Ok......Now to be serious.

Your discussion is well presented and easy to understand also. The only problem I have found is that it only matters to those who have already opened their minds to doubts or are only interested in JW beliefs and are not JW's. I presented this very subject to two elders from both our own publications and the bible, once they saw the years did not add up they said so what's your point..........Then they recited a phrase scholar has used...you have to trust the bible. That has nothing to do with it but it changes the direction to make you think you are being disloyal to God and the bible for challenging the WT chronology which backs the 1914 date.

Maybe it makes sense that you would require invisible rulers and invisible evidence to confirm the invisible arrival and invisible rulership of Christ in the invisible heavenly realm along with the invisible proof that jesus then selected the Org and Rutherford to represent him and truth on the earth.

what is the # 1 reason people join the JW's ??? what attracts people ???

being brought up in the borg, i always envied my friends that did not have to go in service, go to meetings, and waste their weekends away, i have never really been able to understand why someone would join the jw's unless they were born (forced) into it.

aside from maybe coming from an abusive lifestyle or relationship, or had serious drug/alcohol problems, this i could understand how the religion helped them get back on track.

so why do people join ???

Interesting subject.....one I have thought of and kind of conducted my own Angus Reid Poll.

I have asked just about every JW I've met over the past several months that very question...How did you get the troof.

1) Born into it.

2) A loved one became involved and to please them they in turn gave it try, the rest is history.

3) A crisis was going on in their life and someone came with all the answers.

4) They were accepted into a large community and felt somthing no one else had ever given them...a feeling of belonging.

I always ask this question to help myself understand how so many can be duped into joining an org which controls every aspect of their lives without even checking its history out.....For the ones born into it they trust the judgement of their parents and would probably be good muslims or budists if their parents were that...I fell into that lot, I should have known not to trust my parents...our family was so secretive about everything.

I especially feel sorry for third world countries where they do not have anyway of knowing what they are getting involved with
