found an interesting excercise in comparisons and I must agree that 500 francs is 1.4% of the minimum monthly wage in Togo,

you are right on the money there.

1.4% of the minimum monthly wage in Australia is $56 and a minimum wage earner here would need to work app 2.7 hrs to earn that.

In Togo a minimum wage earner would also work 2.7 hrs to earn 500 francs. Perhaps I'm getting a little pedantic

with regard to the dollar amount but many here in oz picked up on the "note" and hence my suggestion of a discreet envelope

in line with giving from the heart and not for the eye. Oh by the way a denarius is worth around $200 in todays values in Oz.

ps these little hints of contribution rate seem a little unnessesary when Australia Jw headquarters recieved $18,367,450 in contributions in 2011

Yep Oneoutallout, any organisation you join has rules and they're entitled to that.

Trouble starts when the d..k.heds that oversee them dont even know them, meanwhile, full of self importance

they blab away totally oblivious of the damage they wreak.

Those crazy moments do return but they will soften in time.

You know, some of the older ex and current jws in the world and on this site do often shake their heads

in honest recognition of the errors that have been made.

Living in denial gets you nowhere,,, speaking from experience.

I reckon Pastor Dylan sums it up to my way of thinking.

"you gonna have to serve somebody" and we all do in some way shape or form.

I wish i could agree Jeffro, that there is no basic meaning that will subliminally instruct readers unfamiliar with

the currency depicted to donate a particular amount. And it is true and obvious that notes are preferred to coins as they were in Jesus' day .

However, the lowest denomination note with a yellow tinge in Ewe speaking countries is 500 francs. Given the average wage over there pays approximately 182 francs per hour, that represents app.2.8 hours work. compare that to average wages in western countries and you'll find that equals around $75,, still representative of a large amount.

does anyone know where there might be a link to an english watchtower library 2013?

i don't know why i download an illegal copy every year - probably so i can take the mick...... all i can find is an italian version - the only italian i can speak is on the menu at our local restaurant......

Havent been released yet outinthemeadows, only the 2012 version is extant at this time.

Oh ha ha Italian ??? probably got leaked out of the Bethel in Italy, apparently they

are in need of first aid as i understand. there's threads elsewhere about the alleged dilemma in Italy.

Yes Julia Orwell, I would have thought an envelope would have been more in line with not displaying showy means etc etc.

However, sadly, I did in fact check american, mexican, japanese, russian, arabic, german, and even humble little ol Myanmar,,,,

they've all got the same pic.

On another note, congs in oz have this week voted on constitutions individually so they qualify for "charitable organisation" benefits.

A couple of politicians have been lobbying for changes in the tax laws to catch out the churches of Scientology and Jehovahs Witnesses

as the politicians don't reckon they contribute to society due to their "extreme" practices.
