Does God speak directly to GB today?
by Bambie init's been 15 years since i was df'd, but i seem to recall as a jw that the belief was that the only human after adam that jehovah spoke directly to was jesus.. my question has to do with what the org.
teaches regarding modern day communication with jehovah.
it was my understand when i was a jw, that the gb does not say that jehovah speaks directly to them.

WTS Bills US JWs $8.4 million for Traveling Overseers
by ezekiel3 inbeing announced at service meetings this week at all us congregations:.
a letter read during the announcements states that due to increased costs of health insurance and vehicles provided for traveling overseers (circuit and district overseers) the watchtower bible and tract society has determined the need to ask for a specific "contribution" for the "traveling overseer assistance arrangement".. .
until this date expenses of this sort were paid from the worldwide work or general fund of contributions.. .

JW's Are Footstep Followers of Jesus Christ
by Honesty inbecause the watchtower says they are but so far, i haven't seen any tangible evidence from any jehovah's witness i've ever met even when i was a jehovah's witness.
does anyone have solid proof the jw's are doing the things jesus did such as feeding the poor, nursing the sick (baptist, methodist, catholic, presbyterian hospitals are everywhere and are supported in part by donations from christian groups), providing spiritual refreshment to the soul, etc.?.
maybe i'm just not looking in the right places to see any evidence supporting the wtbts's claims that they are christians and following in jesus' footsteps.

When I pioneered without a vehicle (poor and married) the elders and their car pools would pass me on the streets, honk, wave, and pass by on their way to donuts. I couldn't afford coffee, so I smiled and said one day in the Kingdom - you know what, I was right, "yes, one day in the Kingdom." she started talking to me about this great little piece in the magazine about fish or something that should be on my dinner plate, something that i don't really care about, then she turns to me and said and i quote " where else but jehovah's organization can we learn such things?

Remember when we were told by Crooklyn that reading the pubications for 4 years would equal a college education - maybe basket weaving (maybe not), or furniture appreciation (but as a dub you can't appreciate anything). Anyone know about the martial arts?
by pennycandy inmy 11 year-old is getting picked on at school.
he is not cut out for competitive sports and not interested.
i've pushed my jw mindset aside and am considering letting him take a martial arts class (gasp).

I agree with Jt, Cyp, and Big Dog. Ultimate fighting has taught us. I practiced Tae Kwon Do for years and have departed to study Escrima (Filipino martial arts) with a personal trainer. The sticks, knife, and hand techniques have taught me much more than the katas and the competitions. When it ends up on the ground, there are no katas. I thoroughly encourage everyone to study a martial art.

Hall's "For Sale" sign removed
by observador ina while ago i posted about a kingdom hall in the area that had a for sale sign up.
now, driving by the other day, i noticed that the sign was no longer there.
so, i drove into the parking lot and the meeting schedule sign is still there and "kingdom hall" sign is still up.
