There was a day when if there was a wanted man hiding in a residence... the police would just stake the place out, and wait for the suspect to emerge and then apprehend them in the least confrontational way possible. Now a days they come in at 3 in the morning on a no knock warrant and fill your house with a swat team with military weapons. Yea who thinks that is a good idea? -

I don't hate the police... I hate the police state we have become. Their supervisors and politicians are at fault. Police violence is NOT a racial issue. If I has a white man don't follow instructions just right in a police encounter I am as likely to be shot as any black man. The police are always taught to escalate and use overwhelming force. They are not trained in de-escalation tactics. If we only focus on racial problems we ignore the greater reform that is needed.
The problem with blacks and police have three factors. Number one blacks are MUCH more likely to be involved in violent crime so therefore they are more likely to have police encounters. During these encounters police are aware of the crime statistics so they will be much more likely to be on edge. This isn't racism it is just acknowledgement of the facts. And thirdly... there are cultural difference between blacks and others in how they act during police encounters. I think it is Chris Rock who said if you have a run in with the police, just do what you are told.... if you feel like you are being mistreated, you go to the station the next day and file a complaint. These comments where considered controversial just highlighting the cultural differences I mentioned.
Also most studies show that whites or Hispanics are actually more likely to be shot by the police.

Why does this forum often cut off big chunks of my posts? The theory I heard was Pangaea was suddenly and violently torn apart by the bursting of the fountains of the deep.

More Shootings ... 3 Louisiana Police Killed ... 3 More Injured
by RubaDub inextremely sad as the news is coming out.
6 police shot in louisiana and 3 dead so far.. i'm waiting for a response from the nra stating that we are safer when we are all armed.
the police had guns and the shooter(s) had guns so i guess they are good with it.. our thoughts and prayers go out to the families affected.. rub a dub.

More people die from heart disease than get killed by blunt objects.
More people die from auto accidents than get killed by getting punched in the face.
Yes and we as a society take action to lesson both of those things from happening because they are very common. Rifle deaths in comparison are very rare. Why do the very sensational deaths by rifle move you so much more that the countless more people kill by handguns? 80-90% of gun violence is done with hand guns. Do something about that first is all I am saying.

A creationist would say that species can adapt to their environment but those adaptions won't lead to new species.

But one happens a lot more and makes it easier to do. I can't remember the last time I saw a "man clubs 50 people to death in a nightclub" headline.
Yes one does happen a lot more... did you read the link I gave?
FBI statistics in 2012 Show....
625 deaths by rifle and shotgun combined.
322 deaths by Rifle and 303 by shotgun
1196 Deaths by blunt object
678 of those related to "fists"
You are twice as likely to be bludgeoned to death than being killed by a rifle or shotgun. You are just reacting to the media attention and the dramatic stories created by mass shootings. Yes fists and blunt objects are a far greater public health/safety concern than rifles, they just don't create nearly as many sensational news stories.

I can't imagine how impossible policing would be if you have people openly able to carry lethal weapons
Open carry insures that everyone acts politely and civilly. IMO concealed carry is a much bigger public safety issue.
I think I am safe in saying that many victims of these mass shootings wish the person(s) were just using their fists or blunt objects.
Dead is dead. I don't understand this comment at all. As a matter of fact death by gun is probably quicker and less painful than by blunt object.
Even though I am advocate for gun rights(though I personally am not an owner)... my comments where not meant to be anti-gun control per-say. What I was commenting on was the irrational fear we have of long black militaristic looking weapons. If you actually want to advocate for gun control in a rational intellectually honest way you have to deal with hand guns NOT rifles. Rifles make up a tiny portion of our gun problems. It seems that no one advocating for gun control will acknowledge this. The arguments against rifles are totally fear based and non rational.

Handguns are a MUCH bigger public safety risk than rifles. 80% of gun murders are committed with hand guns.
