I want to know why a never believer is somehow more worthy than a former believer.

Telephone Conversations Today with 2 Elders Re: Shunning - Or Not?
by abbasgreta inmy alcoholic and aged jw mother is now extremely ill and is being cared for in every respect by my non-jw brother.
3 sisters visited him yesterday and were adamant.
that i (disassociated and shunned by her for nearly 3 years) was able to 'visit her any time' and that ' there was nothing to stop me seeing her' as long as i. didn't discuss spiritual things with her.

The limits of science.
by Seraphim23 infor a long time i have accepted that when a theist inserts god into some as yet not understood scientific matter, it constitutes a god of the gaps argument.
as a theist myself, the problem with this for me, is that it implies an arbitrary limit on gods ingenuity.
for example, the idea that god created automatic processes to do certain things in nature, and yet with other things the need for a direct hand to either tweak or directly organise!

Science often does a good job of explaining how. However some of us also want to know "why".

Ferguson Shooting (Is my thinking on this all wrong.......)
by out4good3 ini think everyone here can agree that walking down the street, even in the middle of the street, is not cause for having a clip emptied in your ass......... i can understand how the black community would be outraged by the injustice of seeing another black man dead in the street at the hands of the police under mysterious circumstances....... i hope that i'm not succumbing to the attempts to assinate the already well impuned character of the dead man...... however.
i can't help but think that this could all have been avoided by exercising the proper discretion with fore-knowledge of the disadvantages people of color have when they are dealing with law enforcement in the united states.
it is not as if this disadvantage has only since recently came to light.

I think this has very little to do with race. Race is a distraction. Also this rioting isn't about one single incident. The people are pissed about a pattern of behavior by the police. The police have open season on the populace. Our rights are constanty being trambled on. Even when police show violent aggression that would put a a normal person in jail, the most that ussually happens is administrative leave. I truely believe if the police treated the poplace with respect and dignity their jobs would be much easier.
All that being said... in this particular shooting the facts are cloudy. Very difficult for us to really know what happened.

Scriptures that now seem to apply to JWs
by Magnum inin the last year or so, many bible passages that i used to strongly and confidently apply to non-jws, began to seem to apply to jws.
this change in my thinking was shocking and disturbing.
i can best describe the feeling by comparing it to the feeling i got in 1981 when i watched the movie dead and buried starring james farentino.. in that movie there are murders committed in a small town by dead people reanimated by a doctor doing experiments.

Ironicly I was warned by a JW about false prophets. That actually led me into learning about their prophecies.
I think this is where people get the bible wrong. If you accept the truths of the bible that is great. However the truths in it are for YOU. They are not meant to give you a sense of self righteousnes as you beat others over the head with the bible. Rember remove the plank from your own eye before you try to remove the splinter from your neighbor.

Has anybody here ever had an after death comunication experince?
http://www.after-death.com/Pages/About/ADC.aspx
Whether or not they are objectively provalble, they tend to bey very healing and comforting for those greiving heavily. They are so intensely personal and "crazy" of an experince that most people don't like to talk about them. So they are much more common than they seem. Some therapists even have techneques to facilitate this happening.

LS - Have you read about the latest progress in abiogenesis?
Just reading up now on some of the newest stuff. Interesting to say the least. However everything I see so far is very experimental/theoretical at the moment. Very fun for some mental masturbation but not much good otherwise.
Yes science can understand some of the building blocks however when it comes to whole organisms, even the simplist form of life you can fathom is still so unimaginably complext that it just boggles my mind.
I will though keep reading if I find good stuff.

People see evidence of evolution and then assume it is a done deal, no need for a creater. Thank your for pointing out that is a much more difficult question than that. Even if you believe in evolution there still can be room for faith.
