This is a simple bullying case stop trying to make things MUCH bigger than they really are when race is involved. The biggest problem is not racism it is our obsession with racism/race.

by EndofMysteries inhttp://news.yahoo.com/high-school-girl-taunted-beaten-bus-stop-acting-035032786.html.

The government should TAX the WT for the social services spent on JW's.
by EndofMysteries insince there is an abundant supply of literature where the gb tell members not to get education, not to plan for retirement, not to worry about their health, all vs doing more literature peddling, perhaps the government should stick a monthly bill to the wt for the social services, retirement, welfare, medicaid, etc, that is being spent on members because of their insisting that they don't take care of themselves and plan for the future.
.
how quickly would 'new light' come that each member should plan for retirement, should get good schooling, etc??

So if a Church conducts commerce and rasies income as a buisness, I have no problem with taxing them. However I do not believe donations should be taxed.

Was droping bomb on Hiroshima in 1945 evil?
by new hope and happiness insorry for such a depressing question, but i was moved by a picture i saw of the consequences.
( a woman carrying her child) and i realised:-.
a) it was a civillian population.. b) i don't see how a nuclear holocaust can ever be right.. c) they could have bombed tokyo where all the generals lived but chose hiroshima.. d) the irony after the bombing america conceeded to many of japans terms.. your opinion would be valued..

Just to sum up my thinking on this matter...
While I think you may be able to concieve of some way of ending the war the would be more moral or ethical I don't think the nuking was inherently evil in the enviroment it happened in.
Also had never considered this one... how different would the world look today if half of Japan was part of the USSR? That was probably the most likely atlternate outcome to using the bomb.

A question I have always wondered, is why didn't they surrender after the first bomb?
Then again why did they so quickly surrender after the second? Did they really think we had the ability or the will to nuke the entire island? I heard we had maybe one more oporational weapon and then would have taken months before we could make more.

Just some blind musings...
You have to consider that the world had been at war for nearly a decade (you could make an argument that it had been at war since 1914 with a pause in hostilities)
You have to consdier that between 50-100million people died. (I think the distinction between civician and military is silly when numbers are so high, everybody hopes to be a civilian again one day)
You have to consider the fact that the fire bombings imo where signficanly worse.
IMO ending this period of incredible brutality quickly and decisively was an act of mercy.
You also have to consider what happened after the war. While living through the cold war was terrifing, I truely belive nuclear weapons prevented the USA and the USSR from going to war. As a matter of fact it has prevented any two major world powers from going to war with each other. We have seen an uprecidented period of peace following the decisive end to ww2.

Telephone Conversations Today with 2 Elders Re: Shunning - Or Not?
by abbasgreta inmy alcoholic and aged jw mother is now extremely ill and is being cared for in every respect by my non-jw brother.
3 sisters visited him yesterday and were adamant.
that i (disassociated and shunned by her for nearly 3 years) was able to 'visit her any time' and that ' there was nothing to stop me seeing her' as long as i. didn't discuss spiritual things with her.

I want to know why a never believer is somehow more worthy than a former believer.

The limits of science.
by Seraphim23 infor a long time i have accepted that when a theist inserts god into some as yet not understood scientific matter, it constitutes a god of the gaps argument.
as a theist myself, the problem with this for me, is that it implies an arbitrary limit on gods ingenuity.
for example, the idea that god created automatic processes to do certain things in nature, and yet with other things the need for a direct hand to either tweak or directly organise!

Science often does a good job of explaining how. However some of us also want to know "why".
