A creationist would say that species can adapt to their environment but those adaptions won't lead to new species.

More Shootings ... 3 Louisiana Police Killed ... 3 More Injured
by RubaDub inextremely sad as the news is coming out.
6 police shot in louisiana and 3 dead so far.. i'm waiting for a response from the nra stating that we are safer when we are all armed.
the police had guns and the shooter(s) had guns so i guess they are good with it.. our thoughts and prayers go out to the families affected.. rub a dub.

But one happens a lot more and makes it easier to do. I can't remember the last time I saw a "man clubs 50 people to death in a nightclub" headline.
Yes one does happen a lot more... did you read the link I gave?
FBI statistics in 2012 Show....
625 deaths by rifle and shotgun combined.
322 deaths by Rifle and 303 by shotgun
1196 Deaths by blunt object
678 of those related to "fists"
You are twice as likely to be bludgeoned to death than being killed by a rifle or shotgun. You are just reacting to the media attention and the dramatic stories created by mass shootings. Yes fists and blunt objects are a far greater public health/safety concern than rifles, they just don't create nearly as many sensational news stories.

I can't imagine how impossible policing would be if you have people openly able to carry lethal weapons
Open carry insures that everyone acts politely and civilly. IMO concealed carry is a much bigger public safety issue.
I think I am safe in saying that many victims of these mass shootings wish the person(s) were just using their fists or blunt objects.
Dead is dead. I don't understand this comment at all. As a matter of fact death by gun is probably quicker and less painful than by blunt object.
Even though I am advocate for gun rights(though I personally am not an owner)... my comments where not meant to be anti-gun control per-say. What I was commenting on was the irrational fear we have of long black militaristic looking weapons. If you actually want to advocate for gun control in a rational intellectually honest way you have to deal with hand guns NOT rifles. Rifles make up a tiny portion of our gun problems. It seems that no one advocating for gun control will acknowledge this. The arguments against rifles are totally fear based and non rational.

Handguns are a MUCH bigger public safety risk than rifles. 80% of gun murders are committed with hand guns.

I know it is early, and I know I will be lambasted for saying so but... this case points out the frivolity of Gun Control.
That being said.... May God have mercy on the countless souls slaughtered here. I also pray for comfort and peace for everyone from this community, France and the whole world.

Confusing Opinions with Facts
by cofty inin a discussion about the best flavour of ice cream everybody's opinion is equally valid.. in a discussion about the shape of the earth or the origin of species everybody's opinion is equally irrelevant.
only objective facts and evidence matter.. confusing these two categories is a common feature of conversations in this forum.

Something being incredibly likely=/=fact.
Ridiculous Semantics? I just thought it was applied logic.

"It's like years ago a man could say I'm not the father of that child. Today DNA could PROVE that he is the father."
Thank you for making my point on what is "provable" or what is a "fact". The logic your statement is false. With DNA testing you can prove someone is NOT the Father. However you can not definitively prove that he IS the Father. Yes you can show it extremely likely. You can even come up with odds that are Billions to one that he is the father.
However in my mind saying something is extremely likely and calling something a "fact" is very different. Maybe I am just too picky on my use of the English language. LOL

Calling evolution a fact is like calling the law/theory of gravity a fact.
Yes our theories do a good job of explaining what we observe in the physical world. So it is a good workable theory. HOWEVER if you really get to questioning an honest physicist they will tell you they have no idea actually what gravity is or how it works. So yes the theory of gravity is good science but you can't call it a fact.
Sometimes religious minded people become very dogmatic and close minded. However those that choose to follow science are prone to the same thing. A good scientist should stay skeptical and curious about EVERYTHING. The moment you think you have every thing figured out is also the moment when you actually know the least.
Stay curious my friends!

They are equally certain. Feel free to continue that topic on any of the 37 threads of that series. This topic is more general.
Yes they are equally certain, but they are not equally knowable.
