I had a small Texaco station, for about a year, full service, free air for everyone. Problem was, most people went across the street to the self service station, to save 2 cents. Now let it rain, and i had more customers wanting to buy 1 gallon of gas, so they didn't have to get wet! I got to asking them to go where they normally went!

poll, why would you hide it your buisness/job
by sowhatnow inhow many people on here who were or are jws, owned or ran a buisness who would not willingly let people at the k hall know, maybe to avoid feeling like you had to give your fellow brothers and sisters a discount, or free help, or out of fear of being judged.
did you only help out the pioneers?
and not the poor ones?

I do repair work, in a small shop. I give the so called friends a price break, if i know they can't afford to pay full price. I have the lowest prices around already. I also have the lowest overhead. There are a few very elderly sister that don't have enough to get by on to start with, i will do the work for free, but then I have done that for many sweet little old ladies. I just love the look on there faces, when I say, oh just bring me some homemade cookies or bread, next time your near!
Not long ago, this cranky, very hard to like sister with pleanty of money brought her item in for me to repair, I said i have it done in a bit (meaning a day or two) she says, "Oh I can wait!" and just set down! So I took it into my work room, spent an hour and a half, fixing it! I took it back up front and set it down, and was telling her what all i had done, she says, "Good" picks it up and heads for the door! I said, "That will be $75", The look on her face was priceless! She said "But I'm, a sister" i told her, "I have to make a living" You would have thought I pulled a gun on her! She pulled out her wallet, that had a stack of $100 bills! She went home and called an elder!

" Do not ask permission, just play the video--" service meeting instructions.
by prologos inthis statement startled me out of the pleasant mental absence during this week's "service" meeting.. pushing the org.
explanation: "the listener has time to interrupt, if they want--" .
together with an incredible boring "study" of an hand held device, or it's stored content, i will be a totally new crop of orgies at the halls,.

A brother I used to know was df'ed for something back in the 50's, that in the 60's changed, but the df'ing congregation would not reinstate him. In the 70's, he packed and went to Brooklyn, and came back, with a letter, saying to treat him as if he had never been df'ed in the first place. That the original issue had been a oversight on the wt's part dealing with reasons to be df'ed back in the 50's.

Years ago the monthly accounts report went into detail, not just a 30 second recap. And the simi annual audit was too. The came an km with a question box (it may have just been a letter) saying that we all could trust the appointed brothers to take care of things, without being questioned, and from then on, it was only to be a quick summary of the report. Seems it also talked about how much time wss wasted thst could be better used!

by JeffT inmy wife (a blonde) told this one to our son and i yesterday, knowing we'd find it really funny.. .

Blonde is not a hair color! It's a mental condition!

Strange letter to local congregations
by Syme inthis summer i saw on the bulletin board of a specific kh a strange letter, the info of which i'd like to share with you.. it came not from the gb or the branch office, but from the local evangelizers school.

Watchtower In The Window
by watson inevery time i see this new "logo", jw.org, i'm taken back to the days in the late 60's and early 70's when we used to put a watchtower in the rear window of our cars when on the way to our vacation..er, i mean, the district convention (that's what they called it back then).
then, some years later we were "admonished" to not put the watchtower in the rear window of our cars while on the way to the dc.. how long before they council the "friends" to not bring "undo" attention to the organization?.
boring subject?

I so remember those days. Sometimes we would have a small convoy of jw's traveling together. And if one pulled off, the others would follow, just in case there was a problem of some kind. I remember once getting to ride with another family, because they had 2 boys my age, and there sister rode in my car with my family and sister!
Lots of fun memories from way back!
