recently there have been several claims made regarding prophecies that came true.

i've not personally seen a prophecy that i would consider as having come true.

i would consider the following as the requirements to say something is a prophecy and evaluate whether or not it came true:.

I do not agree with you that there is no historic fulfilment of either Isa 17 and 19. Damacus was taken by Tiglath-Pileser III between 738 and 732BCE, and Egypt was invaded by Esarhaddon, all these events are recorded on ABC 1 (BM 92502), as well of the sacking of Babylon by Elam in 694, which makes Isa 20 refer to this even and not the later defeat by Cyrus.

Just show me the scriptures that refer to these specific people, events and dates and I will agree also.

Viviane - Are we restricting the use of a post written prophetic/ History or did you rule that out in the OP?

So you still have an unfulfilled prophecy that you have to make up stuff and add to it to make it "fit".

Not one prophecy from the Bible can be shown to be fulfilled.

As seen, a historical fit for Is. 19 was missing. Such a period in Egyptian history cannot be identified. However, above statements would make perfect sense as a prediction for the future, as of now.

OK, so all you have is an unfiulfilled prophecy. Since Assyria doesn't even exist as a nation anymore AND the then Caananite language the prophecy claims they will speak is a dead language, it's unlikely to be fullfiled, but hey, free beer tomorrow, right?

HT, having a dream and having something sort of fit later isn't a prophecy, as you accurately said. Even if you HAD told someone, without specifics, it's vague and almost anything could fit. That's why, for real prophecy, specifics are as must.

No dogma, just a reasonable standard of judgement. That prophecy fails any reasonable test is a consequence.

Let's say the prophecy has had a partial fulfillment. According to above prophecies, there's some interesting developments to look forward to. Time will tell.

Since they believe that all prophecies have been fulfilled, including the prophecies laid out in Matthew 24 and the book of Revelation, they must go through a number of gyrations to find fulfillment of things not yet fulfilled.

Not one prophecy in the Bible has ever been fulfilled.
