because it was aimed at young people and it said something along the lines, "if you believe in god you have a purpose, but if you don't believe in god your life has no purpose or meaning".

i think that is a faulty analysis of the situation.

I'm not at all confused about your god being impotent. You just don't know what atheism is. It just means a lack of belief in god, gods, goddesses, spirits, fairies, magic, elves, etc. Not an insistence they don't exist.

What I meant with what I said was that science was taking those who hold it to that high value to hell not trusting individuals.

Actually, polio, smallpox, AIDS, tuberculosis, influenza and a host of other diseases you believe your impotent god created is what's taking people to hell. Science saved us from them.

God by definition is an omniscient Judge.
Purgatory solves this problem.

Your god is an asshole. "Hey, I am going to punish you for being born into the wrong family." Purgatory doesn't "solve a problem", it just shows what a jerk of a god you guys made up.

But to outside observers two positions can take place.
One is the position of faith in God. And the other is the position that God can't exist if such evil exists.

You're forgetting the option of "your god is just an asshole".

God thought for sake of Infinite Justice He Itself needed to face human suffering. So he set a model that the problem of evil is so mysterious that even God Itself had to experience it.
