The popular atheist claim, "You must only accept scientific evidence as truth," is self-defeating (destroys itself) because that very claim is not a scientific claim, it is a philosophical claim.

That's a stupid argument and it's not common. The only time I have ever heard that argument is people promotting invisible sky fairies trying to claim that other people make that argument. Its simply not true. Also, the claim itself makes no claim to being scientific, therefore your "self defeating" proposition is empty and holds no merit.

You're the first person I've ever heard make say this, therefore isn't very common. Also, "fine tuning" of the universe is a religious claim and has nothing to do with science or atheism.

In order to make this claim, there must exist an objective (3rd party) standard (law or umpire) of morality

All of your claims are nothing real. They are stupid arguments that Christians pretend atheist make. They're straw men. Also, rape is bad, since you seem to not have figured that out.

Who or What is the Holy Spirit?

tradition within christianity has long been that any time the phrases holy spirit, holy ghost, or spirit of godare used in the bible (especially in the new testament), it always refers to the mysterious third divine person of the trinity, who is fully god, co-equal to the father and son, yet somehow distinct.. i want to present a simplified alternative view: let the context determine the meaning!.

(one thing to keep in mind is that the meaning of the bible words used for spirit basically is unseen force or invisible presence.).

Just tell me what the spirit is made of and you've have made more progress in one sentence than anyone else. What is is, how can I detect it, what is it made of?

i'm not naming names, but i just want to encourage people on here or on reddit or twitter, and tell you that you do not have to tolerate people who act like schoolyard bullies in the way they speak to you online.

i think anonymity is a big part of it.

they feel like there is zero accountability so they can be a bully all they want.. i recommend just ignoring or blocking anyone who is verbally abusive or treats you like schoolyard bullies treated you.. life is way too short to spend any time dealing with those kinds of people..

Sounds waaaaaay too much like Disfellowshipping.

"You're free to leave" doesn't, in any way, equal disfellowshipping. Equating the two betrays an utter lack of honesty and complete disregard for the pain and suffering of thousands. It's a self aggrandizing attempt to equate forced isolation from family and friends with your feelings getting hurt on a forum.

It's cheap and dishonest.

My grandfather's sister lived through the persecution of the European Jews in the last century. It has happened, it can happen. People are people.

Persecution of Jews by Christian Nazi's into mysticism who believed in a divine destiny. So far the only common denominator in that scenario is Yahweh.

Religious people have committed evil crimes this is true. But it also true that today's new atheism is creating an atmosphere where in the future, if it were not for government standing in the way, the religious would be drawn and quartered by some who are just as evil as those pictured above.

You're saying that I, as a moderate Christian, should have EXPECTED to be bullied on a website that proclaims itself to be "friendly and tolerant?"

Isn't that the exact same attitude as people who say that women who "dress like sluts" can EXPECT or DESERVE to be raped?

Again, not naming names, but it seems some of the militant atheists and anti-theists have adopted the EXACT same practices of exclusivity, being one of "the elite," and ridicule & name-calling propaganda tactics that have been used by JW elders and leaders.

Please, do name those names, if you can. I personally don't think that you can, but, here's an opportunity to stop playing coy games. Just say who you mean. Step up to the plate and take a swing. Go big or go home.

I just hope all the lurkers can use this thread to identify the bullies and then know whom to interact with and whom NOT to interact with on this website.

You're not a bully. Just because you come to the website and tell us that unless we start loving god, we're dead people with torture to look forward to, that doesn't make you a bully. Just because you're unable to do anything yourself, making threats with the attitude of "my big brother is gonna get you good", you're not a bully. There is no big brother. The threat is imaginary. We get it.We'll talk to you anyway.
